Damn right it's time for a new Alone in the Dark game! Now this is a reason to want a PlayStation 3 ... except it's coming out for 360 too, so I guess I don't need a PS3 after all. Oh snap! Better work on those exclusives, Sony. All snark aside, this title looks creepy fantastic. Still no solid release date yet, but it looks well worth the wait. At the very least, it ought to tide me over until Silent Hill 5: Rape Festival.

I was with it until it went all Xena at the end.

Since we wont be playing a worthwhile RE game anytime soon, this will have to do...

If we haven't played any Alone in the Dark game before, will we be lost by the plot? Cause I'd love to get this.

Oh, and am I the only one noticing that alot of games are starting to have a very "PC look" to them? I can't really describe it better than that.

something about that trailer didn't seem right. maybe the singing near the end, i don't know..

the trailer didn't portray it like a horror genre game

Is there some rule about video games where it says games involving guns/aliens/explosions than the protagonist has to have a scruffy 5 o'clock shadow, bags under his eyes, buzzed hair, square chin, 95 percent muscle, and 250 pounds? And for fantasy games the protagonist has to look like a girl no matter what with long spiked out blonde hair.

I'm not feeling this game's concept, but the graphics are pretty impressive.

Man, looking good. Makes me want RE5 even more. I wish Capcom hired like 5000 people to do nothing but make RE games. We could have about 100 a year and I still wouldn't be happy.

umm Broham that's Alone in the dark, not RE5. Alone in the Dark also predates resident evil. I remember playing the original Lord of the Rings rpg from Interplay on pc and the box had a catalouge with the first Alone in the dark in it, looked creepy then looks creepy now

looks pretty good, I'll probably rent it as survivor-horror/ 5 o' clock shadow games aren't my forte'. Now have the CSI Miami guy in this and it will be a definite buy in my book. "Central park? This crime had to be committed in... CENTRAL DARK." (Cue the who song and shots of miami)

Tits. I also really appreciate that they qualified it as real-time gameplay; it's about FUCKING TIME the industry started doing that.

I love that video games are starting to adopt a strong narrative now. This didn't have the campy theme of the previous Alone in the Dark games, but that's not a bad thing. It looked a bit like Indigo Prophecy.

*Actually, this makes me want to get Alan Wake even more.

So let me get this straight, its a big ass highly detailed park in the middle, surrounded by a bunch of generic looking buildings. While the graphics look good and all at some points, I'm really hoping they make a game that interests me, and fix up all the bloody crap play elements Silent Hill is plauged by. RE4 did a good job cleaning the series up, but in the process went very arcade... starting to look like SH is on the same path. When are these developers going to get off their collective asses and make me a genuine fright fest game?? I have yet to pee my pants or scream out in genuine fright, and dammit I WANT TO!!!!

Horror game, which relies on more adventure then action elements, and doesnt use on stupid gimicks like a Camera or Flashlight to be the only real gameplay element. Terrorize me people, make me cry myself to sleep holding a pillow and sucking my thumb while I repeatedly reassure myself between sobs that "I'm a good boy"

I'll never understand how a game company can release a game trailer for their game and not include any gameplay footage.

Those were all cinematics. for all we know the game could be nothing but puzzles. For all we know all you do is press the up button and you trigger the end of the game.

Trailers like this tell us absolutly nothing. Its something marketing puts together to generate hype. Sad part is, it works.
Niero's Avatar - Comment posted on 04/24/2007 00:32

I think the message at the beginning implied run-time graphics, but I could see how they could say that rendered cinematics could be snuck past that wording. I hope thats not the case.

The trailer made the game seem too sweeping and epic. Sweeping and epic are usually good things but in the case of survival horror, I prefer dark, isolated and terrifying.

Hey mocloppa,

theres this great game called penumbra for PC. It was released about a month ago. Its made by an independent developer and is only about 3-8 hours long depending on how intelligent you are. I think its sold in some stores, but i know you could by it online for like $20. Its in episodic form, like half life. I assure you you'll love the game. Youll thank me. Also, be aware that the graphics/physics are amazing. And only 4ooish megs.

you can get the demo at fileplanet or wherever.

Im not questioning the graphics, im questing the lack of actual gameplay style.

Im sorry, but if you want me to shell out 60 bucks for you're game, you've got to show me more then some crazy griddy camera angles, cliche' hero type figure and supposed real-time pretty graphics.

I consider myself to be an educated gamer. Itll take more then pretty pictures to make me dish out 60 bucks for a game. thats the problem with the industry, too muchshit producing not enough quality stuff.

Invest enough time and effort into putting a solid original game together and people will buy it.

But to use the same fucking unreal engine in every fucking noobbox360 and watch braindead people Ooohhh and ahhhh, like zombies to fireworks over it, encourages the recylcing of crap. EA eats it up.

rant off.

Yeah, I was thinking Ghost in the Shell as well. And re: graphics: I also think that was 100% cinematic. I'll start getting worked up if actual gameplay videos indicate a thoughtful and worthwhile game.

PS: Need next-gen Ghost in the Shell game. I cannot stress that enough.

Whats with all the bashing, that looks fantastic. Also, it's good to see the title try a slightly new type of narrative, Fuck the haunted house cliches. It worked for RE4 to ditch it's old mainstays. I'll be keeping my eye on this.

Uh.. that's Central Park in NYC. And as "generic" looking as those buildings may be, I think the game is accurate.

Talk to the architects.

I'm positive this is actual gameplay footage. There might be a debate if the trailer contained absolutely amazing, unbelievable graphics, but that ain't the case here. The video doesn't show anything more detailed than, say, Gears of War, and we know the 360 is able to pull that off just fine.
