Alone in the Dark special edition looks fantastic photo

Edward Carnby may be Alone in the Dark, but he's certainly not alone in the box if the above image is anything to go by. Eden's fire-fueled survival horror sequel is looking amazing and it seems to have carried over into the special edition of the game -- just look at all that stuff.

Hardcore Alone in the Dark fans, will have everything they could ever want with this set -- an Edward figure, a sixty page art book, an audio CD and a DVD all in a kickass box. I also heard there's a videogame in there somewhere.

While special editions are often, quite rightly, regarded with cynicism, I'd be lying if I said the occasional one didn't rouse my interest, and this is definitely the case here. I just hope the game matches the quality of the package it comes in, though what I've seen thus far does little to damage such high hopes. Really looking forward to this.

this will probably be the first survival/horror game i take the time to play. i just keep putting them off in favor of shorter games and rpgs/strategy.

Very, very nice indeed.
Atari aren't exactly in great shape financially, their future hinges on the success of Alone in the Dark, I would hate to see them stick a ridiculously high price tag on this in the hope that they could use the money to get the company back on stable ground.

That's a cool limited pack. Best one I've seen yet.

I actually did a blog post on limited edition game deals, but it seems few read it. Feel free to check it out if you like what you see.

You know, as comprehensive as it looks, it seems like these special editions are just finding more and more ways of using needlessly excessive amounts of packaging to make it seem bigger and better. Bioshock was a good example of a special edition done right. Sure the initial box was bulky, but the game, DVD, and CD were all bundled neatly together inside a standard clamshell case (and the discs weren't loose!).

Sure the case wasn't some fancy metal dealie, but honestly although I enjoy extras they've become far too space taking and once you've partaken in a few pack in figures and meagerly sized artbooks, I think it loses it's appeal. Who am I to complain though really? I honestly can't think of something that would be more of interest as a pack and it's completely optional. Maybe if they bundled it with some of that double sided tape......

Hmmm...its on the Wii? I just might have to look at this if its not on PCs.

I remember playing the original one way way back in the day, never played any of the ones in between though.

Looking at that set, I'm almost disappointed that they didn't toss in Uwe Boll's movie for kicks.

Regardless, looks like I've got another special edition to buy...

Looks snazzy!

The only thing I've found is usually the more "special" content you get the more cash you have to throw down. They should make special editions for people who pre-order or something to make it more rare and not kill peoples wallet for a damn booklet and figure.

I don't know how many special editions there are of Devil May Cry sitting on the shelf but I know damn well I'm dishing out $79.99 for it.

I'm not quite sure if I want this or not. Sure, the game looks great, but such an absurd package is give or take.

The soundtrack is tempting though.
