Aliens vs. Predator WILL have dedicated servers photo

Rejoice! Despite doubt having been cast over the presence of dedicated servers in Aliens vs. Predator, developer Rebellion has today announced that the cross-species slaughterfest will support them. Looks like PC gamers shan't be needing to sign any petitions for this one.

"Despite rumors, Rebellion has always been planning to support dedicated servers for AvP PC and we can now officially confirm that this is the case," says CEO Jason Kingsley. "Rebellion has always appreciated fan support. We're really looking forward to the release of AvP as much as you guys are!"

With Modern Warfare 2 ditching dedicated servers and RAGE looking to do the same, there is a risk of a new trend occurring in the PC world. Good job some developers are sticking to their guns.

Good Morning,

Last night Jason Kingsley confirmed that AvP will support dedicated servers:

"Despite rumours, Rebellion has always been planning to support dedicated servers for AvP PC and we can now officially confirm that this is the case. Rebellion has always appreciated fan support. We're really looking forward to the release of AvP as much as you guys are!" Jason Kingsley CEO Rebellion

Speculation over whether Rebellion developed AvP will support dedicated servers can now end!

It's kinda sad that it's now newsworthy to include what used to be a bare minimum to make the game playable.

Heres the thing, I literally cannot play MW2 online because they don’t use fast dedicated servers. My internet is pretty crap but I have always been able to play TF2, COD4 and UT3 with minimal to no lag. With MW2 I just can’t compete as the lag is SO much worse.

I wasnt planning to buy AvP cos of the multiplayer anyway but its good to know they support dedi servers.

I'm fully admitting that Destructoid is my serve-all site for Aliens VS Predator news. Let us know about the impending (I hope) collector's edition! I'd like a Predator gauntlet-style red LED LCD watch...

Haha I think its funny that we are both holding out on a AvP collectors edition. I'll get watever crazy priced edition their is too. Like a Predator Skull case or something random. Can't wait for this game, need more videos though.

Good. Only thing that sucks is now we have to go looking for companies that support PC gaming with proper features, instead of these features being there without anything needing to be said about them.

This game is one I've been waiting for. Hopefully it will live up to the "none-hype"

Rebellion is obviously making a mistake. Surely, launching a multiplayer service called RebellionNET would solve all our PC multiplayer problems while simultaneously curing cancer.

How selfish of them to not support the community...

I never play multiplayer and couldn't care less, but I love that they are showing some love to the people who pretty much built competitive multiplayer. In a time when we are constantly losing features and depth in our games I like seeing a developer saying no to that.

I'll wait for the demo. While I have really fond memories of the first AvP, it was too far in the past to make me buy this without ensuring that it's any good.
But it has the potential for an absolutely awesome Marines vs Predators vs Aliens multiplayer.

I'm glad at least they confirmed this since the last time it was brought up there was no definite answer but as Mechman points out it's been a standard feature of multiplayer games for over a decade.

It feels like them saying "Your car will have tires!" sort of thing but again I am thankful that this new habit of regressing to listen servers has been refused by them.

@StingingVelvet You're missing out when it comes to the AvP games. There's a certain pleasure that comes from scaring the hell out of people by alien pouncing on them from doorways and roofs.

this game play value is going to be well beyond that of MW2, and MP will be more rewarding

It would probably be a bad move for RAGE to continue without dedicated servers, given the backlash MW2 has gotten.

They were probably waiting to see how MW2 would pan out before dedicating to a choice of service.

This is the game that will finally make it worth upgrading and either buy or build a new PC. Game looks good.

This is GREAT news! Many of my clan members will now be willing to buy it and we will be getting a clan server for AVP!
