Rebellion's Aliens Vs. Predator has been slated for February since forever, but today the official release date has been set in stone. Not only that, but it's been made known that the game will go the Modern Warfare 2 route and ship with three different versions -- Standard edition, Survivor edition and Hunter edition.
The Survivor edition will be AvP's version of "Hardened," coming as it does with a metal case and a code for downloadable multiplayer maps that are being planned for after the game's launch. The Hunter edition is a far more extravagant prospect, offering the same map codes alongside a Facehugger model, a Weyland-Yutani sleeve badge and a "3D lenticular postcard."
Sound luxurious, and more than a little silly. I want to deride this as yet another unnecessary special edition, but my Aliens fanboyism is preventing me. Damn it ... I am probably going to end up reserving that.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And plus, if the game by some twist of fate turns out crap, you can just pretend it's super exclusive unrelated stuff. Win-win.
It better not turn out crap.
These are the same people who developed Rogue Warrior.
Keep this in mind people.
Keep this in mind, people.
I don't normally buy special editions, but after the joy it gave me as a youngster avp deserves it.
No point in denying the fanboy impulse.
Naturally, it may be different Rebellion, because of Rogue Warrior travesty. But time will tell. Survivor edition sounds more ... "serious" to me. All the toys i got over the years in various CE are barely in one piece.
In all the movies - when you hit them at close range - acid sprays out and you die.
So for continuity - shouldn't the Predator die every time it uses a blade/melee on an Alien?
IMO this missing acid splash is why the AvP movies don't have any combat mechanics continuity to the Alien series movies.
I'm going to guess Sega will decide there is no acid splash in this upcoming game - and that, if true is a cheap cop-out. Because it simply ignores a combat mechanic that is THE original reason the couldn't cut the facehugger off in the original movie.
Which brings up another major concern.
Destructible environmental physics. When Aliens die they aren't going to burn holes through metal floors?
These are major concerns for me.
1, havent you been paying attention? acid spray is there
2. destructible enviorments to that degree would effectively push this game back a few months if not an entire year. its basically asking rebellion to start from scratch.
happy to hear acid spray is there
However, at this point in time, I doubt its in the game.
