Remember the Aliens RPG that Sega was supposed to be bringing out? The one that was announced and then went quieter than Anne Frank's wardrobe? If you were looking forward to it, prepare to be sad, because one of its developers has let slip news of its cancelation.
The information comes from the resume of ex-Obsidion designer David Kondor, who listed among his work experience the following: "Designer for canceled third-person action Aliens RPG (Xbox 360, PS3, & PC)".
That appears to seal the deal. Sega has not issued forth any comment regarding the RPG, which was announced several years ago without any news since. However, with the publisher already working on Aliens: Colonial Marines and a newly announced Aliens vs. Predator game, it's reasonable to assume that the mysterious RPG was scrapped. Three Aliens games on the go at once is a bit much.
A shame, since I can't get enough of games based on the Xenomorphs. The ones that don't suck, anyway.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

It's always sad to hear a game's been canned, but I can't see this one being too profitable. Not to say the idea didn't have potential though, I'd love a Phantasy Star Online, small party type affair where everyone can bring their own custom gear would be pretty sweet.
Small party idea has me thinking though... Left 4 Aliens, anyone? I think the Director AI would be pretty sweet in space!
This is mildly depressing. I do love those acid bleeding chest-bursting things.
I think I liked the Fox games because you could pick between Alien, Predator and Colonial Marine, and they all had ability's based on the race.
Mildly depressing indeed.
At least Alpha Protocol's still on track!

What I don't understand is the green lighting of an Aliens vs Predator game, when the recent one of PSP was dire. I expect its because they want to pigeon it to sell with more of the crap AvsP films. Expect a poor game, but I'll try to have an open mind on it.
If that's the case, 'Going out there, with those things running around, well you can count me out' (Hudson from Aliens)
I'm really disappointed that Aliens RPG has been canceled, I would have liked to have seen how that would have worked out.
I'm still worried about the status on Aliens: Colonial Marines; it's been canceled once before, I hope that it does eventually get released.
