Our own editor-in-chief has pointed out a rather dismal irony -- Aliens: Colonial Marines has become the new Duke Nukem Forever, despite being developed by the guys who brought Duke back. Gearbox Software boss Randy Pitchford has said that the game won't be out in 2011. At this rate, we'll be lucky to ever see it.
The game was first planned for a 2009 release, but we've seen a tiny sliver of screens and nothing else since then. The game's been pushed back while Gearbox bumps it down in favor of Borderlands 2 and Duke Nukem Forever, and this latest pretty much confirms that the game is the lowest priority for the studio.
I was excited for the game when it was first announced, but I think I'm going to stop caring. Even if it ever does get released, a game with nothing to say for itself after almost three years is rarely ever very good. I'm one of the biggest Aliens fans you could find in games media, and I'm done with this.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I really hope this game is good when it's released.

Borderlands came out Oct. 09 so I'm sure some kind of work on a sequel I'd going on. No one would be surprised if borderlands 2 becomes the next priority after Duke and whatever else they have going on. It's really sad. Gearbox is effectively turning excitement for an anticipated title into indifference.
However, I would nothing more than to be proven wrong and see Colonial Marines bece a priority.
Anyway, I'm gutted...but it makes business sense for Gearbox. Sega must be hurting over their lack of profit on the Aliens license though. Oh well, back to Half-Life: Opposing Force then.
Looks like your iPhone/iPod owned you, son.
FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUU.........
Oh well...I can wait for Borderlands 2!
As for this Aliens thing, I'll care when there's something to care about.
fuck you
That was a bad fucking idea when u have 2x Alien prequels in 2012/3. Make the fucking prequels, see. And dont ever ever hire Joss Whedon to write that shitty story too
Google "Aliens: Colonial Marines – 2012+ Stranded" for more details if interested.
I am not defending Sega or Gearbox, but in this instance, it looks more like a legitimate reason, than just vaporware postponement.
fuck gearbox- I loved avp, the haters are just fucking morons who claim to love the original avp even though this one was superior in EVERY way - but hey thats rose tinted vision for you. If I was sega, I'd just forget about CM and make avp 2, or give cm to a competent developer.
also how does AvP still cost more than Mass Effect 2?
"I loved avp, the haters are just fucking morons who claim to love the original avp even though this one was superior in EVERY way"
The ONLY thing better about the new AvP was the graphics. Literally everything else about the game was worse than its predecessor.
I'm not saying the game was terrible; I had a decent time with it. But you don't need rose tinted lenses to see simple facts.
@article
That's too bad... but probably for the best.
the storyline in avp 2010 was superior
the shooting was superior
the level design was superior, looking like they were ripped straight from the movies
the lighting was superior (which is a big part of the experience)
anyone who didn't like avp 2010 is a moron, thats just fact now
