Aliens: Colonial Marines not dead, details coming soon? photo

I recently just watched Alien vs. Predator for the first time and now I need a solid Aliens videogame to help wipe the taste of bullsh*t from my mouth. As a lifelong Xenomorph fan, the wait for Sega's Aliens: Colonial Marines is proving frustratingly difficult, not least because its very existence keeps seeming to hang in the balance.

Once again, we've been given evidence to show that it's not dead yet, with UK gaming magazine PowerStation teasing details in next month's issue. The magazine has never been known to run an April Fools joke, so they might not be yanking our cranks. In any case, I shall eagerly await any fresh signs of life for this Gearbox-developed shooter.

We really need to hear more about this game soon. I'm all for developers taking their time, but going this long without showing any sort of progress never speaks well for a videogame's quality, especially since Sega usually promotes games to the point of exhaustion, yet has remained eerily silent on this subject. It's my sincere hope that Gearbox brings out a great Aliens game to match the classics. So far, however, there's simply nothing to go on.

Awww. I'm sorry you didn't like AvP. It did get tiresome at times, to be sure. You should still give the sequel, Requiem, a chance though. It's a much tighter movie.
I hope you at least appreciated the nods in the movie to orginal Alien lore, as in the entire movie being about Mr. Weyland's discovery of the Xenomorphs, which leads to his company's (or, the company which his company eventually becomes part of, Weyland-Yutani's) future reoccupation with weaponizing them. The discovery is essentially the catalyst for the events in all the proper Alien films. It gets a dab of nerd-cred for that.

Can't possibly be worse than AvP1, right?

...Right?

Gilder:

It wasn't a completely terrible movie. Good popcorn flick, and I love the way they animated the Xenomorphs. However, I have to call such bullshit on the "Predators as ancient Gods" thing. Also, I'm still astounded that they managed to turn a crossover film into a prequel.

Great Great Great News! I made a Parody Video about the supposed rumors of canceling this game on my youtube channel (AngryJoeShow). Got alot of hits and repsonses.

Supposedly someone with some say in the whole thing said it has been timed and pushed back to release AFTER the new AVP game being developed by Rebellion.

Why or how that makes any sense is beyond me so take it with a grain of salt.

To be honest im still massively depressed over the possible cancellation of the Aliens RPG project over at Obsidian :(

Oh and I love your Stuff Jim, your the reason I come to Destructoid for my updates - Keep up the great work. Im a huge fan!

I'm sorry, but both movies were equally horrible. Like, really really horrible. Oh and I didn't even know A:CM was considered dead/dying.

I think the second AvP movie would be awesome in HD, I watched at the cinema and it was hard to see what was going on, was way too dark in places and the ciname quality left it looking like a grey/black blur. Specially the Alien predator hand to hand fights.

Anyone remember that strategy-ish, top down type AvP game, I had it on my PS2, that was a good play.

@Jim - I remember reading that Ridley Scott was interested in doing an ALIEN prequel where he explores the creatures' origin...then after AvP's release, I remember reading that he was no longer interested in doing so. Therefore, AvP 1 is on my sh*t list; not for beating Scott to the punch, but more for cheating us out of what could've been a plausible origin story. Also, double bullsh*t on the Predators as Ancient Gods thing.

Though I wouldn't mind seeing an AvP3...well, the First-Person shooter, that is, though hopefullly Sega comes through on their promise of a kick-ass ALIENS game; maybe something along the lines of Left 4 Dead in Space? One can dream, I suppose...

@SexualChocolate

That has nothing to do with HD/SD/Cinema. The projectors at your average movie theater is nothing more than a amped up light gun shooting that gigantic image. The contrast ratio (in all forms) on your average movie theater projector is total garbage.

Heck, an SD image on a CRT TV will have better contrast, black levels, and shadow detail than a cinema projector

Thanks for the correction, I don't delve into the whole "techie" thing, all I know is that it just looked shite.

I would certainly watch it again on a blu-ray through my LCD TV though.

That experience pretty much put me off the cinema, was the first time I'd been in years anyway!

Is there such thing as a HD cinema yet? I'd like to think so, but there's none round here in Middle England.

AVP:Requiem was better imo, but thats like saying my pee tasted better then my poo.

How they managed to fuck up the concept continually is beyond me. The comics are RIGHT THERE! Use them!!

I have yet to see AVP:R but can only assume it is better than the shit first AVP.

But really nothing beats Arnie and Danny Glover single handedly kicking the shit out of predators.

I actually found the aliens fighting the predators wholly more enjoyable in the first film. I didn't necessarily agree with the lore of the two species and sure as hell refuse to even acknowledge the Weyland-Yutani lore, but in the first AvP, when the aliens actually fought the predators, it was badass. AVPR was decent for what it was, a b-movie rip off. They set out to make a b-movie ripoff and they did it. The only interesting parts in AVPR were the brief glimpse of the predators home planet and the insinuation that they are a solitary species away from the hunt. Besides that... just stop.

I actually liked the original AvP better than the sequel (though the Predator Gods thing was BS), the original movie at least made sense. AvP2 felt like a cinema rehash of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Anyways... yeah A:CM has been quiet for far too long, I'm hoping maybe this game will pull an Aliens and go from totally silent to making your motion tracker go off the charts (and have Bill Paxton claim "WE'RE FUCKED MAN!")

Aliens: Colonial Marines sounds like it's going to be like L4D.
