Look, I'm all for a developer setting it in the same universe and getting things down to the smallest details (which Gearbox has done so well here), but say Colonial Marines is on par and/or a direct sequel to a classic action thriller with brains, when it's clearly just a fan-fiction shooter is just screaming absolute nonsense.
I'll pick it up, undoubtedly, but it's not exactly going in with my DVD collection.
Jim, I didn't really get that vibe about meeting Ridley Scott though that might be because I was wondering why that guy was wearing a fucking fedora inside and why the camera showed his hands. The vibe I took away from this was we are trying to make guys who look like they could be managers at Radioshack look cool with these neat intros, oh, and authenticity and Aliens and facial hair.
Because it features new "mutated" Alien types specifically for gameplay purposes, as opposed to the simple Queens / warriors featured in the movies?
Because they introduce events to "explain" Alien 3's plothole-filled opening?
Gearbox and Randy, please. Stop bullshitting, because the only people who actually believe you are the moderators on the GBX forums.
What if Aliens didn't have Ripley? What if we just focused on the Colonial Marines?
It wouldn't have half the themes it did, and it's not imagine the results since every movie that rips off Aliens doesn't have that central character - just a bunch of people running around and screaming while they wave their guns in the air...which is just about every SyFy weekend movie ever made.
Personally, the issue is not about female protagonists. It's about having an interesting central character.
@Tim: I'm pessimistic because this latest version of A:CM is a stripped down effort. If you read about their original intentions, it's hard not be a bit wary of what they've created since then.
