Does anybody remember Aliens: Colonial Marines? I certainly don't, but it's hardly surprising, since the game was canceled by EA in 2002 and never saw the light of day. Now, a whole six years later, the game -- very much like the aliens themselves -- has undergone a resurrection.
Gearbox (Brothers in Arms) has rescued Colonial Marines from EA's basement and will be bringing the squad-based shooter to PC and consoles in 2009. It will be published by SEGA.
As a huge fan of all things Xenomorph, this is great news to me. While Aliens games have been spotty, I'd go out on a limb and say they've been one of the more successful videogame licenses to date, and the potential is always there for a great Alien-em-up to be had. Just give me some guns, some current-gen graphics, and a bucketful of chestbursting, phallus-headed acid droolers and I'm sold.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
just bring those two arcade titles to XBLA and keep me from crying myself to sleep at night.
Edit: Predators aren't mentioned here. I wish they would thro them in though...
The one based on Alien 3 for SNES/Megadrive was ace.
Alien Trilogy on the PlayStation was also a lot of fun.
The arcade stuff wins too.
As for this game, it looks interesting, but when I think tactical I think slower-paced, and aliens are fucking fast.
I have to wait till 2009? WTF. It's Resident Evil 5 ALL OVER AGAIN!
I'd like to see them taking more influence, from the Aliens comics than the warped films.
Damn. I'm itching to bust me some xenofreaks, and get some revenge for them icing Hicks in Aliens.
''Get on the ready line, people.''
For realz though, just give me SOMETHING with this franchise that can sniff something close to awesome. Just do this now, then maybe interest for a Predator based game done well will arise. Then the AVP game after that. I'm all for a sandbox-styled game where you play a Predator bouncing through either a jungle or a city taking humans and xenos alike. Since there won't be any Crackdown sequels, just use that physics engine...but please add story and different missions.
Alien vs. Predator on Jaguar...awesome
Alien vs. Predator Arcade...Awesome
Aliens Arcade...awesome
Alien 3 on the SNES/Genesis...Okay
Alien/Predator on Original GameBoy...Ugh
I'm hoping for a Gears of War style Aliens title following the dark horse comics where there was a battle on earth.
My fingers are officially crossed.
I do think too many previous games have focused too much on an fps nature, so some variety and squad based GRAW like gameplay is badly needed. Maybe a switchable fps to third person view.
Just imagine an Aliens game done in a galaxy like Mass Effect, but much better (minus the gun combat)? Damn, I want this game NOOWW!!
It seems that as soon as they made a movie that was it, no more games except for the crappy PSP one based off of Requiem.
I can't blame the developers - who would want to continue the line after it was so utterly raped by those horrible excuses for movies?
Fuck Paul W.S. Anderson and his shittyass "re-envisionings" of everything that already has a robust story to work with... what a bastard.
got me all the way from my home in the north of belgium to the south of france on family-holiday :-)
Plus running on the walls as a Xenomorph was fun. Last time I got to do it was in the Darkness as a Darkling -another instance of a game with incredible online potential that was squandered.
They idea of playing as an Aliens area Space Marine = wins, yet experience has taught me that if theres a way to fuck it up, they will find the way. Look at the Aliens vs. Predator movie. The idea seems almost fool proof; throw a bunch of alien and a predator in the ring and let the madness ensue -yet look at the films.
