Alien Breed Evolution announced, looks suitably slimy photo

Alien Breed's coming back? What? Yes! For those not in the know, Alien Breed was a top-down shooter heavily inspired by the Alien movies. The goal was to get to an elevator on every level, and the focus was on endless extraterrestrial carnage.

The first three screenshots have emerged and the game is looking pretty damn good. As with most titles this generation, it's powered by Unreal 3 and will naturally be geared for co-op play. No platform seems to have been announced, but it's looking likely that this will be headed to XBLA and PSN.

Check out the screens, let us know what you think. I personally look forward to getting my Breed on again after all these years.

Team17 returns to it's roots with a stunning remake of Alien Breed.

Team17 are absolutely delighted to formally confirm the return of one of it’s most cherished properties in ALIEN BREED EVOLUTION.

The Unreal3 powered next-gen title, part of Team17’s quality, independent digital line-up is a drop-dead gorgeous “retro-modern” remake of the game that helped Team17 burst onto the Amiga scene 18years ago.

Featuring an action packed, tense single player adventure and an absolute blast of a co-op game, Alien Breed Evolution helps raise the production bar on download-only titles and underlines Team17’s re-energised momentum since deciding to become an independent publisher in the digital distribution era.

Video footage, more shots, details and platform confirmations will be forthcoming later in the summer.

Team17 can be reached at 'pr@team17.com'.

About Team17:
Team17 are an independent developer/digital-publisher based in  Wakefield, West Yorkshire who are now in their 19th year. Team17 IP includes the WormsTM series, Alien Breed, Superfrog and others. At time going to press, Team17 have two titles in the Xbox LIVE Arcade weekly sales top 10, including top seller Worms 2 Armageddon.

About Alien Breed:
The original title was released in 1991, the first of a series of Amiga games that required 1Mb of RAM to play. The title was a great success and underpinned success for both Team17 and the Alien Breed name, which returned for several sequels in the early 90's. Alien Breed Special Edition in 1992, released at a budget price point, spent 33 weeks at the No.1 UK budget chart position.

Is it bad to say that I wanted 2d graphics instead of 3d?

I had always wanted to play the Alien Breed games, but I never had an Amiga, and the PS2 version was cancelled years ago. So this will be my first...if it's priced right. I would really prefer that this would be released on a disk instead of a DRM-filled download.

Anything involving Xenomorphs, I'm totally on board. I never played the Alien Breed games, however there was a playable fan remake for the PC called "Alien Breed: Obliteration" that was really effin' good...can't wait to see how this new one shapes up.

Awesome. Hopefully they do away with that one key per door silliness.

Played every part of the series. Best top down shooter ive played on my amiga(maybe ever). Team 17, please dont mess this up by adding to much new stuff like this dual analog shooting sillyness, thats crap. Keep it like part 3, with drawback function while shooting. Also i whould like to hear again that lovly female cpu voice like in ABSE(warning, destruction imminent). And please keep that shoping/upgrade system!
Knowing this is coming, they only have to bring me a remake of Moonstones and Persian gulf inferno and so i can die with a smile!!!

This is well cool. I remember this and The Chaos Engine (that was by the Bitmap Brothers though) being my two favorite Amiga shooters.

Now they need to announce Project X.
@ Sir Playfield - Am I thinking of the same Moonstone? aka A Hard Days Knight?? If so good call.
