Perhaps it's ironic that a game focused on crawling around forests at night is keeping us in the dark, but here's the latest trailer for Remedy's mysterious Alan Wake. It looks hot as anything, but it sheds no light on how the game actually plays.

Either way, the game's premise is interesting, so kick back and enjoy the short video. Hopefully some tangible details will surface eventually.

I'm pretty excited for this - I agree it's an interesting premise.

It looks kind of cool. Don't really have any idea what the game's about from the trailer, besides maybe that Alan Wake is a writer and the scary things he wrote about are now in the town...? Something like that I guess ^___^

If it ever comes out, I'll probably pick it up. Looks like it has potential.

Wait, wait, WAIT. Dude with a flashlight running through a wooded area? I'm feeling déjà vu...and I'm thinking Atari should sue for plagiarism.

Also, these graphics were impressive in 2005, when we first heard about this game. Not so anymore.

I am getting skeptical because most of the time when people make trailers that don't show a lot of... anything substantial its because they know its retarded so they make it look as cool and epic as possible to draw people in before the negativity starts.

@ Samit-this game was announced and shown off LONG before Alone in the Dark was even announced, but I'm sure you're kidding...right?

Not a whole lot in the trailer, but after both Max Payne 1 and 2, I trust Sam Lake to not disappoint.

@timtheterrible: I'm being facetious, but that "They Lied" trailer for AitD was posted on GameTrailers on March 31, 2008. I can't imagine that Remedy put together this Alan Wake trailer before then.

I look, I see, I understand. But seriously, what the hell is it?

I'm assuming third-person action adventure with a so-so story.

@ Samit-Oh, I thought you meant the concept of the game was derivative of Alone in the Dark. My bad.

Looks like a movie I would want to watch, not necessarily a game I want to play.

@nintendoll:
Trying to remember the story (loved the Max Payne games so I've been following this all along)...

Iirc the things he wrote about come to life either when he's sleeping, at night, or through his dreams. Something that means he is struggling to stay awake, which is where the name is supposed to come from (A. Wake). Cringe-worthy, but it still looks amazing. ^_^

I don't see what the elusive part of the trailer is. You're in a town that you discover to be controlled by Alan, and SPOILER ALERT it's totally because he's passed out in a coma and you're playing the game in his head.

Here's the thing. Looking at that trailer, I think:

A) This is going to be an awesome meta-adventure with action elements that stimulates my imagination and brings games to another level of artistic achievement

or

B) It's going to be hackneyed first-year film school bullshit with a few token twists and lots of "in your head" zombies.

Plus, giving away the ending in the trailer: bad.

I honestly don't know at this point.
