$30 eh? I just bought the collectors edition of Alan Wake on amazon for $30. Granted it was on sale but still, MS is going to have to seriously drop the prices on their Games on Demand titles if they ever want bargin hunters such as myself to bite.
Well, at least Microsoft haven't totally given up on it. I thought the game had one of the unluckiest launches in a long while, so I'm glad someone out there is still pushing for a new audience (and obviously sales).
I've actually taken it in the butt twice with the extortionate GoD prices.
Mainly because the two titles I bought (GTA, Fallout 3) were 18's and as a nearly 18 year old, i don't like waiting around for my mum to buy games for me :(

The game sucked for me. The "scare" factor was way off, enemies were easy to kill, controls weren't very tight and the story was a superficial, Stephen King knock-off (Yeah, some will try to play it off by saying that "It's a tribute", but let's face it, Remedy bragged about how good and original the story was). Overall, Alan Wake was just a cheap GTA 4 rip off with scare elements. Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space made better attempts at scaring me, and those were dedicated Action titles, not horror dedicated games!
I just wish they'd add some kind incentive to buying these games digitally, like throwing in the DLC for free, or something.

I love how obvious it is that Gaidenrider probably hasn't ever played Alan Wake, considering none of his complaints are...really even close to on the mark. Or even the right genre.
GoD is never going to be competetive or worth Microsoft's time at this rate.
If games were released digitally at the same time as physical copies and priced a little lower, I might be willing to give it a try. But releasing it six months later at the same price as a physical copy? Pass.

Anybody that has played Alan Wake and uses the phrases "GTA 4 clone" or that its a "horror game" has not played Alan Wake, move along people Gaidenrider does not know what he is talking about.

They never claimed it to be a horror game. They always said it's a "suspense" game. And I know he hasn't played it because it was originally going to be open world, but they cut it out. Anyone that hasn't bought this game, please buy it. I freaking love Alan Wake and would like to get a sequel. Kthxbai

I consider it a horror game even if Remedy don't want to call it that, it's one of the scariest games I've played.
I thought this was a solid play, but not quite as memorable as I was hoping. The 'creep factor' didn't translate as well one would of hoped. It's the kind of narrative that if you were following in the first person in a book would have been intimate and eerie, but put through the lens of a video game lost some steam. It always felt it needed to have the 'weird' factor shot up a notch or two.
The levels were large and good-looking, but often strangely empty. Almost big without a point. The combat was fun, but somewhat basic. That's no knock, but large exploration-inviting levels and relatively simple combat/repetitive enemies that centered around mass-spawn points almost felt like two different game types were clashing.
The writing reminded me of Max Payne, which was good and bad. Some very good parts, some parts where the writer was trying too hard to be clever/profound. At the end of the day the actual 'horror story' wasn't that earth-shattering at all. I wouldn't quite say derivative, but not original. The characterization did more to bring it alive.
It's a good game, and I'll look forward to a sequel. I do think the franchise would be served by making better use of it's expansive environments and upping the 'weird' factor with the player's experience, as opposed to in-game Alan Wakes experience, in mind.
