Starting this Sunday, April 25th, Xbox Live Gold users will be able to watch the first two episodes of "Bright Falls," a live-action series which sets up the events of Remedy's upcoming psychological thriller, Alan Wake. Episodes will then be released weekly until the finale on May 17th, which is right before the game comes out. What an amazing coincidence.
People who don't have Gold accounts aren't going to be shut out in the cold. The videos will be released a day later for all Live users and will then be posted to brightfalls.com the day after that for the web to consume as a whole.
This is a good idea. As much as I tend to prefer going into a new setting cold, Alan Wake seems to have a lot going on and I wouldn't mind getting a little bit of background into the town of Bright Falls before I have to live there. Plus, the whole thing reminds me of Twin Peaks and that's never, ever a bad thing.
WELCOME TO “BRIGHT FALLS,” THE CHILLING LIVE-ACTION FILM PREQUEL TO “ALAN WAKE”
The six-part series premieres exclusively on April 25 on Xbox LIVE and April 27 at BrightFalls.com
Turn down the lights but keep your flashlight and batteries handy, as Xbox 360 unveils “Bright Falls,” a six-part live action series that serves as a thrilling prequel to the mystery unfolding in “Alan Wake.” Each episode will bring you to the edge of your seat and spur your curiosity with the same eerie and suspenseful cliffhangers as in the game. TV fans will find that the series evokes the same ghostly chills as “Twin Peaks” did when it premiered 20 years ago this month.
The first two episodes of “Bright Falls” will be available for viewing exclusively on Xbox LIVE for Gold members starting April 25 and for all Xbox LIVE members on April 26, before debuting at BrightFalls.com on April 27. A new episode will be released each week thereafter, leading up to the shocking conclusion with the final two episodes on May 17.
Shot on location in Oregon, “Bright Falls” is directed by Philip Van, whose short films have won over a dozen awards in festivals including the Sundance Film Festival, Berlin International Film Festival and more. “Bright Falls” also features notable actors such as Tom Noonan who recently appeared on FX’s “Damages,” and Cooper Huckabee who joins the cast of HBO’s “True Blood” this season.
Fans of the highly anticipated psychological action thriller are invited to check-in for this thrill ride before Alan Wake’s search to unravel the mystery officially begins on May 14 in Europe, May 18 in the Americas, and May 27 in Japan. For those who can’t wait, you can secure your Bright Falls Bonus Pack by pre-ordering the game now from participating retailers. A must-have for anyone intrigued by the game, the pack includes Avatar gear like the “I Am Awake” T-shirt and an Xbox LIVE “Bright Falls” theme based on the game. For the ultimate “Alan Wake” collection, the Limited Collector’s Edition, designed to resemble a hardcover novel and packed with special bonus content, is the perfect addition to your bookshelf.
Bringing a new style of storytelling in this dynamic new title exclusively for Xbox 360, “Alan Wake” is developed by Remedy Entertainment, the renowned original developers of the successful “Max Payne” series. “Alan Wake” immerses players in an intense and expansive cinematic world that enables players to explore the hyper-realistic and interactive environments. “Alan Wake” is episodic-based with a deeply engaging and suspenseful storyline unveiling new twists and profound character revelations at every turn, rated T for Teen. Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Not sure how all those people got to play the game so early, but I can't imagine they'd be lying... Would they?
Looks like Gears of War 2 all over again...
Gears of War 2 actually sucks though.
Touche.
ok remedy, i'll bite.
(please be good)
Yeah right, like only the Xbox 360 reviews got lowered by stupid fanboys. There are fanboys on both platforms you know. It's no the first time it happens and it sure won't be the last. And whatever, like the metacritic score matters to real gamers... is it you or metacritic who play your games?
"is it you or metacritic who play your games?"
Where in my comment did I insinuate that I was in any way affected by this? I was simply stating a fact and using the opportunity to poke fun at this ridiculous fanboy war, and couldn't care less whether you or anyone else likes the same games as me.
(And judging by your tone and poor grammar, I'd actually prefer that you and I like different games. That way, there's no chance of us ever crossing paths online.)
Judging by my tone? I forgot that I uploaded a sound file featuring my tone of voice. Sarcasm aside (yes I'm joking, take it lightly), no, it was more of a 'sad truth sigh' than anything else. It was intended to make you realize that not only Gears of War 2 has gotten bad reader reviews. Any exclusive on any platform will get the same treatment.
Oh and you got to be kidding? Grammar? Really? You can always tell when one has no argument. Bitching about grammar, that's kind of low. Sorry but typing on an iPod can sometime give different results than you'd have expected, and considering the lack of an edit feature on this site, I couldn't correct my mistakes.
Whatever, keep bitching on details if you want, I'm done here. Peace.
Apologies for overreacting and for the ad hominem. (I know a thing or two about iPhone typos.)
I read too much into your comment and took it personally.
BFF again?
While I despise fanboy dorks in general, PS3 fanboys are among the most annoying of the bunch. They cry like little bitches and shit on anything they can't have. While that sounds like any fanboy, PS3 fanboys are the loudest and most annoying pricks of the bunch.
Sorry for that. I have a habit to try to put all consoles on the same level of equality since I own all three consoles and love them all. And sometime it makes me sound biased toward another console.
Of course BFF xD
You bought all three consoles AND THE UNIVERSE DIDN'T EXPLODE???
;)
Same here. It's good to be us.
