Akuma rages into Street Fighter IV photo
Akuma fans rejoice, for the Raging Demon has returned. The above image comes from a series of shots that seemingly show the readheaded stepchild leaping from the sky in dramatic fashion during Street Fighter IV's opening. You didn't really need to know that, but ... AKUMA!

Akuma debuted in Street Fighter II Turbo as a hidden character, dramatically introducing himself by obliterating M. Bison if certain in-game requirements were met. He has since become a firm favorite, at least "down our way," and this announcement should make a few Street Fighter fans wet their Chun Li underwear.

With some of the SF IV redesigns proving a little controversial, what do you make of the new-look Akuma? Snazzy or sucky? He doesn't seem too different from how he's always looked, but then I was always too busy looking at Cammie's arsecrack to pay attention.

Cammie as in Street Fighter, I must add. Not as in Nintendo.

I'm hoping Sub Zero returns. He's my favorite Street Fighter character.

The greatest gaming April Fool's joke cum fan service ever.

Glad to see he's back. Now I can be super cheap with the master of Street Fighter rage-quits.

Hope he stays a hidden character at the very least. Akuma is very overpowered. And he's supposed to be, because he' like the ultimate badass.

But that kind of stops being cool once he's selectable and letting people tear you to pieces with the most powerful character in the game.

As a Ryu player, I hate Akuma. Aggressive Akuma players are awful matchups. Dude has too many moves, and they're too powerful. And shun goku satsu is some cheap shit.

Fury-Genesis: I agree with you, but I feel that Akuma's low defense balances his overpowered moves. I prefer Ken when it comes to facing Akuma.

@Fury

Uh, no. Akuma is only overpowered when he's a boss character. Compared to Ryu and Ken he takes damage like a bitch, sadly. But, that is meant to counterbalance his increased speed and damage, as nilcam pointed out. The Street Fighter series has always been pretty well balanced.

As to how he looks - Awesome as always :D

Well I think Akuma's overpowered-ness depends on the Street Fighter version, and the kind of player that is playing him.

People who turtle with Akuma are like lambs to the slaughter, while aggressive ones give me fits. I also think Akuma wasn't as bad in 3rd Strike, but in the Alpha games, he was terrible.

He is overpowered in games where he is the boss or a hidden character. In games like 3rd strike or alpha 3 where you can select him as a regular character he is balanced.

Not too much of a surprise to see him back. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion he'd make it to the console version, at the very least.

=============

I don't think DD and Garuda are 'official' SF characters. Aside from the EX series (which were created by Arika, not Capcom if memory serves), neither has appeared in any of the main SF games. Hell, does ANY EX character appear in ANY Capcom game other than the SF EX games?

@Shael: Nope those EX characters were created by Arika. Capcom has ended their partnership with them so we will probably never see those characters again... in a Street Fighter game.

Akuma looks bad ass. I can't wait to cave his face in with Zangief.

Given that Akuma was in the intro movie, it's not too surprising that he's in the game proper.
