Ain't nothin' but a game thang: Snoop Dogg coming to Rock Band. Fo shizzle. photo

That's right, noted pimp, playa and hustler, Snoop D-oh-double-G will be appearing in Rock Band in the near future.

After leaving long-time label Interscope records last year, the rapper has inked a deal with MTV to release his next record, Malice in Wonderland. Along with the record contract, Bigg Boss Dogg will be hosting a late-night talk show on the network and releasing a selection of his greatest hits to the Rock Band games.

Snoop's incredibly awesome quote from the press release follows:

“When Van Toffler and I sat down Boss to Boss, a global quintuple threat takeover was masterminded. As the world of entertainment keeps changing, we felt it was the right time to let Snoop Dogg back on MTV so we could continue to run thangs with music, movies, DVDs and bring Hip-Hop to Rock Band.” said Snoop Dogg. “So screw ya wigz on tight and tune in on Tuesday nights for the first step to the next level of Snoop D-O double G. Dogg after Dark is the only nightclub tv show hosted by you know who. So take a journey with me through the mind, body, soul and musical mind state of the most prolific, authentic game spitter. And tha sh*t is funny, so show me da money!”

I, for one, can't wait to be rocking on some "Gin and Juice," though I do worry that the inclusion of rappers could escalate the existing fanboy feud over the two major music games into a full-on east/west gang war. I can totally see playaz cappin' asses over who has the maddest vocal skillz.

The full press release follows the jump.

New York, NY – February 10, 2009 – MTV and rapper, icon, record producer, entrepreneur and actor, Snoop Dogg today announced a first-of-its kind global deal that will bring the entertainers’ personality to television in a new variety talk show, “Dogg After Dark,” and his music to fans with a new album release and into the best-selling music video game Rock Band®.

Premiering on Tuesday, February 17th at 9pm ET/PT on MTV, Snoop Dogg will host “Dogg After Dark,” a new jam packed weekly variety talk show from Los Angeles hotspot Kress on Hollywood Boulevard. “Dogg After Dark” will bring his Doggystyle swagger to the airwaves with raw interviews with A-list celebrities and musicians, hilarious sketch-comedy segments and musical performances from the hottest artists. The show will air every Tuesday night for seven weeks and feature Snoop’s own in-house band, the “Snoopadelics.”

“Snoop has been a mainstay across MTV screens for over a decade by pushing the boundaries of hip-hop with his signature antics, incredible catalogue of music, legendary videos, larger than life personality and even a little controversy,” said Van Toffler, President, MTV Networks Music / Films / Logo Groups. “I can’t even begin to imagine MTV, my tumultuous career and several raging ulcers without the Dogg being such a big part of our history. He is an undeniable international superstar whose talent and work transcend music, tv and film and we look forward to launching this new multidimensional partnership with the Doggfather.”

“From iconic VMA performances to DoggyFizzle Televizzle and everything imaginable in between, MTV has always been a home for Snoop’s music and comedic expressions and will continue to be that through this exciting new partnership,” said Amy Doyle, Executive Vice President of Music and Talent for MTV.

The Grammy-Award nominated rapper’s unprecedented deal with MTV will let loose Snoop Dogg’s upcoming, new album, Malice In Wonderland, with global distribution, marketing and promotion. Featuring some seemingly unlikely musical guests, the album will feature tracks by Dr Dre, Pharrell and Lalo Shifrin, is scheduled to be released later this year. In addition, songs from Snoop Dogg’s impressive catalogue of hits will be released on MTV’s hot-selling Rock Band® music video game platform.

“Dogg After Dark” is Executive Produced by Snoop Dogg. Tony DiBari, Tim Healy and Karen Frank are Executive Producers for MTV. Matt Parillo is Executive in Charge of Production. Leslie Greif and Adam Freeman of the Greif Company are Executive Producers. Ted Chung and Constance Schwartz of Snoopadelic Pictures are Executive Producers.

Dude, this is awesome. My parents' have a karaoke machine that has some rap songs on it, and they're fun as hell.

The drum parts will probably be just as fun, although probably easier than most of the stuff on Rock Band.

AMAZING. OG's for life, son.

Word.

Well, think about it, if they have beastie boys there, why can't we have Snoop, Dre, and the rest of the folk on" The Chronic"?

I highly doubt anyone will be into it, but it sounds good to me.

Ever since I downloaded my first song into Rock Band (I believe it was some All American Rejects song, the 80 pt ones since I got it during Christmas) I've been dying for some rap/hip hop tracks as downloadable.

While MC Frontalot tickled that itch a bit (Still hoping for The Roots to Gym Class Heroes), I'll take what I can get as long as I like the artist.

And Snoop Dogg, I like you. Hells yeah.

Rofl this would be some tight shit. With this, I can just imagine all the genres they will HOPEFULLY bring to rock band. It's just such a party game, why not try to expand the library.

I wouldn't call myself a Snoop Dogg fan, but this is good news to me. There's only so much Rock/Metal/Jimmy Buffet Harmonix can toss into the DLC machine. I'll take all the variety I can get.

Even though there are still lots of rock tracks I want in and I'm not a huge fan, I'll be picking these up. Hip-hop drums should be really fun to play.

RTFLMFAO!
You can't play Snoop Dog songs on a guitar! Perhaps a mock mixing table? or a keyboard? What's the fucking point, then? Sorry, but this is plain obscene to my gamer and musician senses... First off, Snoop doesn't REALLY use real instruments in his music (from what I've heard) and now they're making a game where you can use fake instruments to play songs that don't even have real instruments to begin with?
Danger Destructoid Robot! Danger!
I expect a giant black hole or worm hole to appear very soon to crush this planet to a singularity! @_@

I mean, yeah you can kind of cover these songs with a real instrument.. but i mean.. HUH?! You're using a fake guitar to emulate someone's rap? Doesn't this defy some sort of physics law? Why not change these games to karaoke games and be done with it? Honestly it's more fun and more of an accomplishment to me when I can play a song I heard on my guitar. It gives me a nice feeling. I'm sure it's ALMOST as gratifying to do it in these games, but where I come from.. games involve you doing things that are IMPOSSIBLE to do.. not something you can do with a little practice.. I suppose this fits into that category. But talking into a microphone and singing someone elses music is not fun to me. I can say from personal experience, it's nothing compared to getting some friends together with their real instruments and bashing out a tune.. playing live shows is a blast, and I've never felt anything like it.
I see a mixing table, and a sequencer coming out for this thing soon.. then you should be able to produce your own music, right? Oh.. wait.. Those aren't real guitars or real drums.. You can make your "own music" with sounds that someone else recorded maybe?

Bah, Flame away, Dtoiders... Flame away....
>hangs head in shame<

Drach - don't buy the DLC, dude. It's as simple as that. I'm going to be over here having fun with the songs, because Snoop is the fucking man.

This is ridiculous, a giant fucking oxymoron. And I stress moron. You say there is only so much music that actually applies to the game, they haven't even scratched the surface, they haven't even put a line that can later form INTO a scratch upon the surface.

What a waste.

If this doesnt get in the way of also releasing more actual rock music (you know, to play on ROCK band) then i have no issue. If it does, then its fucking bullshit. These songs would be boring for 3/4 players.

It seems to be, Drach, that you have a problem with Rock Band and music games in general. In that case, there is no hope for you.

I'm a musician myself. I play the jazz sax and sing for a rock band. But I don't know why so many real musicians have such a huge problem with these games.
