Quietly, in the dark of night, Capcom hand-picked and published new high-resolution stills of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on their community blog, Capcom Unity. Producer on MvC3, Niitsuma-san also added some neat commentary to each image, giving eager gamers and fans of the series a quick glimpse on what he and his development team have been feverishly working on":
We explained before that the theme we're going with in regards to the visuals is "Moving Comics", so we wanted the graphical effects to have that "hand-drawn" feel to it too.
If these recent still images are any indication of their progress, Niitsuma-san can scratch these two items off his "this is going to look awesome" list. The ambitious title and art direction that is Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is looking pretty terrific.

Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

*Internet explodes for a week*
I was thinking the same thing when I was looking at the screens earlier. I'm sure it's just lack of a texture layer or something like that.
The art style is... Better than the duck faced sf4 types. I kinda wish there was amazing sprites.
Also, all that boulder punching should have trained Chris up good to take on Hulk...
TRON BONNE IS ON THE BACKGROUND
FUCK
THEY FLAGGED OF TRON BONE. :C
What? Realistic...?!
It's the fighting system that most matters to me, but I have faith that they will not screw it up.
I must confess though a part of me wishes this was like the discared ea marvel fighting game by the guys behind fight night 3, with real 3d fighting around destructable enviroments
Yup. D-toid got scooped by my month old copy of Game Informer. Who says print media's dead?
I don't know about you guys but these fine, fine screenshots of MvC3 just don't compare.
I'm sure that Capcom went with polygons because they thought it would appeal more to the Western audience, and I bet they're right.
Still, MvC3 doesn't look too good in these screens. The game doesn't look like a comic to me, more like a Boris Vallejo painting. Still, that might change once it's put in motion. Capcom never fails to deliver amazing animation, so there is still reason to hold out hope.
Each character in KoF XII took the equivalent of 18 months of work. I doubt the SFIV models took nearly that long so it's quite likely that KoF XII was more expensive to make than SFIV.
but i agree, i was also under the impression that sprites are costly and take forever, especially if you want a smoothly animated game.. 60fps would be practically out of the question
as for the screenshots... i'm not thrilled with them.. they look like an early 90's 3d movie.. but i suspect that they'll look much better in motion
The effects are pretty sweet though. I like that part.
I'm sure this looks 100% better in motion though.
Also, the lighting really looks wrong in that pic. The background is very dark and yet Ryu looks like he's standing in a spotlight, especially his feet (do they glow in the dark or something?)
Wolverine's claws look really messed up too. On his left hand (bottom of the pic), the claws all look parallel, but they don't look parallel at all on his right hand (top of the pic).
Maybe I'm being too critical, but when someone says "this is going to look awesome" I expect something better than the pics I'm seeing.
I just hope the hit detection is better than SFIV was, I hated doing a Focus move while your opponent was halfway through your body.
@cruzzercruz: I still find that TvC looks better than SFIV and KoF XII owns the crown for beautiful sprite work and animation.
This game will be awesome regardless.
Hope they can fix it up.
