Age of Conan is one year old, Funcom giving away free stuff photo

On the heels of a formal announcement of solid growth in Age of Conan, Funcom would also like all of you to know that a pyrotechnic one-year anniversary contest is happening in Hyboria right now.

During this week, the skies will be blotted with fireworks in eight-hour intervals. And you’re invited to take screenshots of them for an opportunity to win several real life “exciting prizes” from GameRigs and Funcom. In game, you can type “/claim” to rock something special as well.

But that’s not exactly all. As part of the anniversary, players with six months or more subscription time will receive a free character slot. (Others will be able to purchase these “soon.”)

Free character slots and fire(works)? Count us in. Still, though, the bear thing needs to happen.

Is the "Real Combat" all that is cracked up to be? Or is it just stand still while you autoattack each other to death?

I'm looking forward to Mortal Online either way.

Ugh, this game was hyped up to the skies in my country; claiming that this game was going to be our greatest cultural export since the 'Scream' painting and A-ha. But the results where just embarrasing...they had the potential to get 1 million subscribers for crying out loud!

But I'm glad they've got their act together, and are getting a steady income to fund their next project - 'The Secret World' (wich is looking quite interesting, I must say), and possibly another 'Longest Journey' game?

@Chronic Logic
No, it's actually awesome. It's a shame this game failed due to bad updates/lack of care from the developers.

The real combat was really, really fun, and PVP could have been that much better than any MMO out there, because it took some skill.

Age of conan was actually pretty great. The graphics, lore and worlds designed were fantastic. I did cancel after one month though due the complete lack of innovation with guests. And the first 20 levels are amazing... and suddenly the voice acting dissapears.....

Fix guests = quests. The other thing was al the areas were instanced (i guess due to level of details in graphics), but this completely destroyed immersion.

One year later itemization is still not fixed, level 5 gear drops from level 60 mobs. No unique items or set of worth or note. RipOff!
