What do you mean a cursory google search could answer this question for me?
Now that you mention it, this doesn't really feel like a full retail release so far.
We'll see though.
I'm even willing to say removing those mechanics from the Zelda name and putting it in a new franchise *cough AdventureTime cough* and it could work great. Least I hope it's great. Please Buddha let it be great.
I got Zelda II when it came out, so yeah I'm kind of familiar with it :p I love when kids and hipsters question my "street cred" on this shit. I was born in 1975, I grew up with all this stuff and played it when it first came out.
Anyway, I'm not saying II was bad or that I didn't enjoy it at the time. But it wasn't as good, either. And the big, BIG disappointment for me was the lack of a proper "second quest" with different dungeons and item locations. The second quest was my favorite part of Zelda 1, and discovering it was just the same thing harder in II really got me down on it.
I haven't played it in ages, but wasn't Faxanadu an excellent side-scrolling NES RPG? I remember it being a bit like Castlevania and Zelda II, but with more true RPG elements.
I know Super Mario Bro. 2 in the US was just Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic with the Mario characters inserted into it. Simply because some suits couldn't conceive that people would be willing to buy the same game twice.
Sorta wondering if the same thing happened with ZeldaII since it really is the odd "zelda" out of the series :P
That said I'm also a BIG Adventure Time fan...
So as you may guess, I'm pretty damn excited for this. Cannot wait.
Looks like there won't be voice acting though, at least outside of cutscenes. In the video, character interaction seems to consist of the typical RPG beeps and scrolling dialogue text. I agree with Jim that it'll be sad to not hear Lumpy Space Princess' voice as she talks. :(
I second the above comment about it looking like a flash game.
Yeah, the story behind the US Mario 2 is kind of interesting. Absolutely loved the game, though. Pretty refreshing/different from other 2D platformers in general at the time. And it's "canon" now since characters from it have appeared in many other Mario titles since. But now that you mention it, I wouldn't be surprised to find out Zelda II had at least started off as something else in early development.
Yeah there's a clear Zelda 2 thing in those side scrolling action scenes.
Please don't make this game too touchy or 3D-ish and It'll be perfect for me.
