AdhocParty releasing, PSP multi making more sense photo

It's a fact. The PSP is nowhere near as popular or widespread in the west as it is in Japan. As such, some of the PSP's best titles such as Monster Hunter Freedom Unite and various fighting games, are simply more difficult to play, since they rely on local "Ad Hoc connections" to use in multiplayer. It's just hard to get four (or more) PSP owners to hang out in the same place at the same time on a regular basis.

One of the solutions to that problem has been AdhocParty, a feature of the PS3 that allows players to connect to each other over the intertubes, using the Black Box o' Blu-ray and the PSN as a middleman. Unfortunately, it hasn't been available to western PS3 owners...until now.

Of course, there were third-party solutions available, among them simply downloading the Japanese version of AdhocParty, but it's nice to see some official support finally coming this way. Plus, the service also supports voice chat, both through headset and the PlayStation Eye. Now maybe we can get some decent hunting going on.

If I was younger and had more fantasy-gamer friends then I'd definately try this. Overall, it's a good thing!

Unfortunately, all my friends want to play are Mario's or games-they've-played-20-umpteent-times. Chocolate World, you are mine to devour! (I'm about to play this with my friend, conveiniently)

FINALLY!!! It sucks having games like MHFU & Phantasy Star Portable and being the only person you know with a PSP.

God, finally.

I've had the Japanese version of this download for months, and I can't read a damn thing.

I didn't order $300 Multi-Tap.

The fact that developers are starting to put up Infrastructure Modes into their games again is a sign of Ad Hoc Party's failure. Developers clearly don't think Sony got it out here fast enough, including some of Sony's own internal teams.

Motorstorm bas it, Thexder Neo has it. Phantasy Star Portable 2 clearly doesn't want to make the mistake again and is supporting Infrastructure. SE and Capcom are probably wondering what they fuck they were thinking when they entertained the notion of Ad Hoc Party for Dissidia and MHFU.
