Activision: We're sorry Guitar Hero Wii sucks so bad, here's your money back photo

The Guitar Hero III mono sound issue earned many a Wii owner's ire last year, and rightfully so -- it's pretty tough to rock out when your game's sound resembles a grilled cheese sandwich run over by an angry teen on a Moped. Activision was quick to announce a disc replacement service, but it seems that didn't keep people from dissatisfaction (better known as talking sh*t all over the interwebs.)

Sensing that more action was needed, Activision has announced that now you can march your copy of GH III right back to the source and get a refund. Here's the word-for-word from Activision's website:

We are committed to providing our customers with quality game experiences and apologize for any audio output issues you may have experienced with the Wii version of Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock. Activision has worked with Nintendo to re-master the game and provide a replacement disc to consumers with Dolby digital surround sound and other consumers experiencing audio issues. If you wish to receive a full refund on your purchase price instead of a replacement disc, please click here and download the refund form, which outlines our refund requirements.

However, if you wish to receive a replacement disc for the Wii version of Guitar Hero® III: Legends of Rock instead of a refund, please click here.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your continued support and patience.

Maybe now the complaining will die down, although knowing the general maturity level of the internet, there's sure to be some doom and gloomers still bitching that Activision should have done the job right in the first place. Does this new fix satisfy you? Or did you know better than to buy a Wii in the first place?

[Via Filefront -- Thanks, Justin]

Why would you buy the Wii version if you had a choice? The Wii version doesn't have any online play and the guitar requiring a Wii remote is lame.

Thats a big step with a lot of companies as this costs a ton of moola.

And I knowthat this is no excuse and that it should have been right the first time..bla bla bla.

Wii version does have online. I bought the Wii version for two reason:

1. The girlfriend. I leave my Wii at her place and she wanted to play GH3 so I bought her that version. Yes I could have left my 360 or PS3 over but fuck that.

2. The achievements in the 360 version are horrible. Yes I'm one of those dudes who uses achievements as a point when buying a cross-platform game.

Ouch, vicious Burn on the Wii. If thats your opinion then let me propose this question to you:

Where else could I drunkly shoot women in Bikinis with Dolphin squirt guns?

Nowhere else. I think the we clearly a winner for this generation of consoles.

Well, I stand corrected on online play. But, is anything involving friend codes and no voice chat really online play?

Also, Cowzilla is correct--Wii wins the console war based on dolphin squirtguns, bikini-clad women, and gay cowboys alone.

Hell... I'll probably return mine just so I can rebuy it on the 360 without feeling duped. No downloadable content ftl.

The Wii has just been a vast disappointment for me. I think of it as lesser than the other consoles, not because of graphical quality, but because I just don't want to play anything on it. I've actually developed a bit of an aversion to picking up games for it. I'm not saying anything for anyone else, but for me I'm saying I could live without it and never miss it.

I agree it almost feel like a chore when you have to decide what Wii game to play. I only play No More Heroes, Ghost squad and RE:UC. OTher than that nothing stands out to me.

I like my wii, I play my 360 more though .... actually I play my DS even more. I wasn't expecting much from 3rd part for the wii, I got one for Zelda, Mario, Smash and the inevitable next Animal Crossing.

Well I didn't care about GH3, there are more games on the Wii I can play in Europe, like Brawl... oh waitz.

No seriously now, the Wii just offers a different type of gaming, if you like it (like me) you'll love your Wii, if you don't like it, there are other consoles to still your gaming needs.

It seems to me relatively low-competitive, fun, or casual games like Guitar Hero show the strengths of a private server/friend-code/whatever type system.

Who really wants to play GH3 with the ultracompetive freaks you find in open server or MMORPG type environments?

Sort of a tangent...and of course, voice chat or lack of it is an issue (although actually, I don't know if it's a major one).

I totally agree with you. The only reason I have it still is because I refuse to sell any of my gaming merch ever again. Plus like I said, the girl loves it. (no wii jokes please)

Harmonix wouldn't have let this happen :D Just keep that in mind everyone, Activison is a terrible company, and the Guitar Hero series is the best example of them being assholes and cockblocking everyone, and every accessory from making a single cent off "their"* franchise.

*By "their" i mean Harmonix.

I got my return envelope today. I'm going to get enough shit from the girl with the game being gone for a few weeks during the swap, if I turned it in for a refund I'd be murdered in my sleep.

".....a replacement disc to consumers with Dolby digital...." Since when does the Wii output DD? The one I had didn't have optical or digital coaxial audio output. I thought the best it could do was Pro Logic 2?

@ kaz: Pro Logic 2 is surround, although not separated as well as true 5.1. The audio seems to only be a issue for people who have their Wii hooked up to a stereo receiver, you don't really notice it if you're plugged directly into the TV.

Thanks Mxyzptlk guess I need to brush up on formats. I thought Pro Logic was just stereo with like matrixed stereo sound coming out of the rear speakers.

I always thought the Wii version of this was crap. Who wants a shitty looking guitar with a Wiimote hole in it to fit the wiimote inside? It looks ugly as hell.

Guitar Hero 3 was made for the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Case closed.

I know of an easy way to appease us Wii owners:

DLC

It was promised for Q1 of '08 and I'm still waiting.

I just want my money back for the PC version. It totally sucks ass. Even on my computer which can run Crysis on medium, it's full of visual lag which screws up the entire game.

I'm glad I got the 360 version. By which I mean, I'm unbelievably pissed that I had to buy GH3 at all because fucking rock band still doesn't fucking have a fucking european release fucking date. When publishers look at maps of europe, do they just see a giant sign saying "shit on me"?

Also, to say the wii doesn't have awesome games is to admit ignorance. Mario galaxy anyone? Also, zack & wiki, no more heroes, metroid prime 3, twilight princess, and despite the protestations of the "hardcore", many of those much maligned casual games are actually pretty shitting good.
