Blizzard Entertainment schedules Diablo III for Q2 2012 photo

Blizzard has been avoiding the issue of setting a release date for Diablo III for months now, but we've finally received information that they do actually plan to release the thing at some point. And that point is somewhere between the months of April and June of this year, during the company's second quarter, as announced today during Activision Blizzard's year-end earnings call to investors.

The company went on reassert that the game has undergone some revision based on player feedback from the beta, though no specifics were given as to what changes may have occurred.

OH MY GOD YES
...I think I say something similar every time that the release date for Diablo 3 is mentioned. If this is true, holy shit. Getting the collector's edition day one!

You do mean Blizzard, not Activision, right?

Activision and Blizzard merged in 2008. They're still separate entities, but the name of the company is Activision Blizzard.

Activision "merged" with them in the same way that Native Americans merged with English settlers in the 1600's.

And if they take the DRM out by then, I'll buy it.

I'm expecting to see at least one or two articles almost identical to this one over the next 6 months regarding Diablo 3.

@Andy and Rodeo

Yes, I know they merged. The point is that Blizzard still sets their own release schedule. They decide when it's time to put out a game. I'm not going to argue how much control Activision has over other aspects of the company (from what I've seen, and I follow Blizzard closely, it's minimal at best)but when it comes to release schedule both sides have openly stated the ball is in Blizzard's court.

The further time goes on, the less interested I am in Diablo 3. Don't get me wrong, it looks good. Perhaps not as good as the previous games, but better in many respects as well.

Torchlight 2 is more appealing, which surprises me. Perhaps it's the inclusion of multiplayer.

Agreed. The long wait coupled with other (imo) poor design choices have killed my interest in this game. Bargin bin at best.

@Evil Champ - Enjoy it, since half a dozen major mechanics have been ripped-out or totally redesigned since its release.

Diablo 2 is the only Blizzard game I'v spent much time playing, and as much as I loved it, Diablo 3 is something I'm only passingly interested in. I'm sure it'll be another masterpiece of design and programming, but I'd be damned surprised if it inspires the same degree of loyal fanaticism with today's kids the same way its predecessors did 10-12 years ago.

But it can still be pushed back further, thats why they haven't set a solid date yet.
