Activision says 'isolated manufacturing issue' beyond Guitar Hero drum issues photo

Addressing issues of complaints about the drum peripheral that shipped with Guitar Hero World Tour, manufacturer Red Octane cites 'isolated manufacturing issue' that impact drum sensitivity.

According to the official statement, random testing of drum kit controllers will be increased to assure they're working properly. Additionally, Activision will be releasing a "drum tuning kit" that wil let gamers "fully optimized their drums." In the meantime, those with any issues are encouraged to contact Activision Publishing customer support.

We've heard a few unconfirmed reports that while Activision were willing to replace the hardware, there would be a $15 shipping cost. From the sounds of things, any issues with drum sensitivity should be addressed with this "drum tuning kit," but when this software will be available is unknown.

Any drum horror stories out there? We're still waiting on our Guitar Hero World Tour review kit, which we're praying will work like a charm right out of the box. Believe us, we're ready to rock ... just not with Activision Publishing customer support.

You'd think after Guitar Hero II... III... Rock Band... Rock Band 2 that they'd make sure the instruments WORKED.

My friend got the whole deal on launch and the touch strip on the guitar is so messed up that one touch on yellow will equal like 10 notes hit. my guitar kit comes from amazon.com tomorrow, so hopefully it will work.

I got the kit on sunday from Best Buy...all my stuff works. The cymbals aren't as sensitive as I thought they would be, like if you want to hit the edge of the cymbal you have to smack it pretty hard but if you hit it closer to the center (where it's connected to the stand) then it'll register pretty soft hits. I'm not sure if this was how it was intended to be but I have no qualms with it.

It's their first drum game. If it makes them enough money they will get it less wrong on the second try.

Still a pain in the ass to all the people who felt compelled to go with GHWT instead of RB2.

I've been reading about all of the 'horror' stories and thought "Hot diggidy darn, I hope mine aren't messed up!" Sure enough, I get home, thoroughly test them out (was only playing the guitar previous to that), and lo and behold, everything is in perfect working order.

Going by the online outrage, I half expected my drums to crumble under their own weight and my sticks to explode in half the second they touched anything.

Sucks to the people with broken sets, but I couldn't be happier with the whole kit :)

I'm glad that I didn't jump at it yet. My Rock Band pedal was busted right out of the box. I figured that Harmonix would have the same kind of issue, so I'm glad that I haven't forked out the $200 for it.

Of course, handing over $200 is a good enough deterrent to not handing over $200...

I heard that the PS3 drums don't work with Rock Band 1 or 2 and this still worries me if it's true and not being addressed

The drums are SUPPOSED to work with RB2, I don't remember hearing anything about RB1.

I have yet to try the drums, but the guitar is awesome.

I wonder if a new rule of thumb for plastic instruments akin to Windows OS releases - hold off on buying the first version.

My roommate bought it a couple of days ago, and we just got back from returning the bundle to Best Buy. The yellow cymbal needed to be beaten HARD for the hits to register making even moderate rock beats tiring. The orange cymbal also dropped beats every now and then. Absolutely terrible.
