Activision's execs sell off some stock for a quick $60 mil photo

CEO Bobby Kotick and co-chairman of the board Brian Kelly took the opportunity last week to make a few bucks by selling off some of thier Activision stock. With shares being up some 30%, Kotick broke off about 1.5 million to sell; Kelly followed with 3.6 million. That's a combined payday of just under $60 million for the two. This follows another big selloff from Kotick in March.

Why the big payday? Who knows. That's a lot of Slim Jims and ramen, though. Business Insider throws out a few guesses, with one of them pointing to the "ill winds blowing across the gaming sector." I think it's probably closer to new car and new house territory. If I was farting out guitar games and printing cash, I'd sure as hell take the opportunity to get some nice things.

Just think, every copy of Guitar Hero sold is helping Kotick towards his dream of having a platinum toilet seat. Live the dream.

When Executives sell that much stock, that basically means they are confident that there will be no more gains and they want to lock that in for themselves. They likely predict a fall in profits due to the fact that they probably already saturated the market with Guitar Hero. Sell, sell, sell!

I still have confidence in ATVI. After all, they own CoD, WoW, Diablo, Starcraft, and Guitar Hero, all guaranteed cash cows. I'll likely pick up some shares before the fall rush.

Could be them making some quick cash to buy a house or 50, but this could also be seen as a confidence issue in the stock price so they decided to get what they can now. I don't think Activision is going to fail but this is an interesting development, especially if more execs follow their example.

@Corak: Most executives of other companies (including Google) sell off stock quarterly. Also, when an exec sells stock, he/she has to file a massive amount of paperwork with the SEC and they make sure it is not to harm to company. It's a process and they cannot just dump stock on a whim

That's not ironic, it's coincidental.
