Activision responds to Infinity Ward lawsuit photo

Evil publisher Activision has responded to this morning's news that ex-Infinity Ward bosses Jason West and Vince Zampella with an official statement, expressing "disappointment" over the decision, and essentially painting the fired studio bosses as the villains of the piece. Looks like this is going to get worse before it gets better, kids.

Activision is disappointed that Mr. Zampella and Mr. West have chosen to file a lawsuit, and believes their claims are meritless. Over eight years, Activision shareholders provided these executives with the capital they needed to start Infinity Ward, as well as the financial support, resources and creative independence that helped them flourish and achieve enormous professional success and personal wealth.

In return, Activision legitimately expected them to honor their obligations to Activision, just like any other executives who hold  positions of trust in the company.  While the company showed enormous patience, it firmly believes that its decision was justified based on their course of conduct and actions.  Activision remains committed to the Call of Duty franchise, which it owns, and will continue to produce exciting and innovative games for its millions of fans.

You've got the love the bitter little stab at the end, where Activision affirms that it "owns" Call of Duty. Regardless of Activision's statement, the whole situation was revealed in such a controversial and frankly bizarre way that it's difficult for the publisher to come out of this one smelling clean, and this is just round one in what is sure to be months of sh*t flinging.

'Which it owns'

That was so unnecessary, but they threw it in there just to try and establish their superiority in this case. Fuck Activision, I'm leaning torwards the side of the ex-employees.

It sounds like they're using the 'I OWN IT, SO I'M RIGHT' argument.

I actually e-mailed the corporate e-mail of Activision telling them that they've lost my business due to their recent actions.

I think this may have been their plan all along.
People at the top don't agree with the direction the games are taking, fire them before they are due a payment.

Thus, they can settle for that payment and do whatever the hell they like with the series without backlash, as all focus is on the bonus payment they should have recieved.

Tis a possibility, at least.

I seem to remember that IW has always kinda bashed Activision in the past. Most recently with Robert Bowling talking about Activisions PR (or something like that).
While I don't really care for Activisions business practices, but maybe also the guys from IW aren't completly innocent either and may have been rightly terminated.

"Millions of Fans" -3 for a good few years now. Activision need a good plundering up the ass. We all know this has something to do with the recent "Infinity ward aren't going to make a MW3" comments. Clearly Activision think otherwise! Poor guys, I hope EA pick them up and put them on the Medal Of Honor or Battlefield team. No point in wasting good talent.

Wow. They're sure doing a good job with the "I MADE YOU!" approach. Not to mention the "FUCK EVERYONE WE ARE UNTOUCHABLE!" approach.......

I am never buying another Activision product again.

Saying you won't support them is all well and good. When the time comes and they release another Modern Warfare or Call of Duty for that fact is when the people have to speak with actions. Saying you won't support them is all well and good, in the end you'll be the first in line to get their game at your local GameStop/Best Buy.

Let your actions speak for you. Not your mouth.

Like Jon B said, this whole thing is probably a calculated move on activision's part. Fire the guys without paying them so that they sue. Then settle for the money they were planning to pay them anyways while keeping and doing whatever the hell they want with the IP. A smart (and extremely asinine) business move if this is actually the case.

Not that I buy their games anyway, but even if they did put out a game that was worth a crap and not some rehash of stale IPs, I would be the first in line to buy it...used. That way Activision gets shit from my wallet.

They wanted the Modern Warfare IP back so they tossed out the heads of IW and replaced them with their own.

Basically, "Vote With Your Wallet."

Nothing is going to kick a company in the teeth more than people not buying the product they placed all their bets on.

Considering Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk have bought saturated themselves to the point where even the average gamer is second-guessing buying them ever again, Call of Duty really is all that the Activision part of Activision Blzzard has left to bet on. Kill it by not buying it, and you will be effectively killing Activision.

... if there weren't millions of people giving them monthly fees from World of Warcraft.

You said that four times... why? I've heard of double posts, but never quadruple posts.

At any rate, I agree to some extent... but we'll see how things pan out. This is really downright evil, as far as I'm concerned. Not like removing dedicated servers for the PC gamers, this is just downright fucking foul. I've got no intention to buy another Activision game.

Nice to know people seem to be jumping on the "don't buy Activison" bandwagon. I haven't bought and Activision game in over a year and a half, and when I did get Modern Warfare 2 I got it off Goozex, used. That'll most likely be my last Activision purchase ever.
Screw them. This is complete crap.

Also, ViciousBoston is completely right (minus his 4x post). I had this stance before MW2 came out, everybody was all "I won't buy it!" then all caved release day. It's nice you are saying this now, but when it really hits the fire we'll see where your mettle really is.

Activision has definitely lost my business. I know heartless corporations are not that rare, but this is ridiculous. This is what you get for all your hard work? Fired, screwed out of your hard earned money, then hit with snide comments in a press release from your former employer. Bullshit.

I give it a week before Zampella & West start a new studio and announce "Men With Guns: Contemporary Gunporn" or somesuch.

People aren't stupid any more, they wont stick with a series if the developers change, look at champ manager, even Medal of Honour was made by alot of infinity ward people before they jumped the good ship EA.

All i can say is "backlash, gogogogo!"

I can see Infinity Ward being in the wrong, seeing as their higher-ups have had said things that would label them as wannabe rock-stars. As much as I dislike Activision, gotta admit that it takes two to tango in this situation. Still, I won't shed any tears for them if they lose Modern Warfare, always thought that Battlefield did it better anyway... (at least on PC)

MW2 was nothing compared to the original anyways. I have no further interest in the Call of Duty franchise. I played MW2 for maybe 3 weeks and dropped it like a dead hooker. I played COD4 obsessively for months and months upon months. In fact, perhaps I will go turn it on again right now...
