During the recent Activision-Blizzard conference call, Activision publishing CEO Mike Griffith revealed that the publisher is planning to release a mere two map packs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
“We plan to launch two map packs for this title,” Griffith said.
At Microsoft’s E3 2009 press conference, it was revealed that Xbox 360 owners would be getting these two Modern Warfare 2 map packs first. While we doubt Activision’s plans won’t change (making Call of Duty DLC is like printing money), it’s interesting that Microsoft might have secured a timed exclusive for the entirety of the content that may be offered for the title.
Especially with this knowledge, the exclusivity thing -- however long it lasts -- seems like a real bummer for PlayStation 3 equipped MW fans. Think about it this way: at least you can get in on the night-vision action. That counts for something.

CoD4's map pack was $10 and for 3 'OK' maps and 1 terrible map that is too small to fit more than 4 people on it so no one ever plays it.
See the difference? Get on this shit Infinity Ward. Don't let the inferior game (WaW) have more DLC options than you. DLC can and WILL extend your games lifetime by a metric fuckton. Also, no more 1v1 maps. No one plays those modes.
Which means they've got the idea of what maps they want to add in through DLC, how they're going to do them, and when they will make them.
In other words. "You pay us more money because we're so good we can withold shit that should be in the game and morons will buy it anyway because they want to be cool and play CoD, instead of a game where the company treats you like a human instead of a piece of shit with a large wallet."
Even though the two would have the same result (maps coming out just a few months after release), telling us now that they have plans already set out just makes me feel like they're ripping us off, and withholding content, even if they're not.
So you want to charge me more than any (non-perhipheral) console game has cost before? Then you want to hold back on some of the features so that you can charge me more for those too, but not until your exclusivity deal with a cheap console producer is over???!

I'm seriously considering not buying MW2 based on this and Kotick's antics.
Now we're stuck with a few major IP's, exclusivity bullshit, parts of games that cost extra, intrusive adverts, very few "non-major" games - it's like everything in the shop is a sequel or this years sports game.
The worst cash mongering, greedy bullshit we had to deal with back in the day was coolspot! - and even that wasn't as in your face as the fucking Fight Night adverts!!!
i remember when a demo disc would last me MONTHS - where now demo's get me hooked and make me buy - i know that's what they're for, but remember those days where replaying the shit out of demo's was satisfying.

I love WaW's extra content because it was unexpected, and unexpectedly great - but when you have a game that already costs 1/4 of a console, and they're announcing extra shit that should be on the disk before it's even released then we have a problem.

The reason this has pissed me off is because all the 360 buying sheep in the world (and PS3 owners, as we can afford £55) WILL buy this game and other publishers are going to look at Activision and say, "you know what, we can charge £55 for a game! Plus DLC!" - and our hobby is going to cost us more from that point on, our wallets will be lighter and our expendable income smaller, in times where pay has been frozen and bills are ever increasing, this is not what we need.

as for the map packs, i didn't buy the COD4 pack, and i probably won't buy this one.
Let microsoft get timed exclusives. Its fine, they pay for it they can have it. Whenever a company is planning DLC maps for a game before its even released is wrong. When we buy a game (especially Europeans for 55L) WE THE PEOPLE should expect the full package. DLC should come much later for a game not 2 weeks after a release. I hope no European buys MW2 because its an honest to god outrage what they're doing over there with the price. I wouldn't even buy it used.

I too am upset that gaming has been destroyed by micro-transactions. We don't get the full game until all the DLC is released, then buy it so you can have 100% achievements/trophies. But it's only going to get worse.
Why does Activision announce 2 map packs before the game is even released? That's stupid, everyone knows that you've already made them and are trying to get a quick buck selling them later on at a ridiculous price.
People talk a lot of s*** about Call of Duty: World at War/Treyarch but who know what they're supporting their games way more then what Infinity Ward is doing with their games.
I remember on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare from 2007 all they gave you was 1 map pack w/ only 3 maps.
