Activision hires for 'advanced retouching of screenshots' photo

Have you ever heard of the games industry position "Art Services Screenshot Associate" before? Me either. I've always figured that there was someone out there that did something like this, but I didn't know that it was a position until I saw Activison's job listing on Gamasutra.

I think it sounds more fishy than it is. They're basically asset machines, working behind the scenes to crank visual assets out. But the listing does ask that the applicant be able to "perform advanced retouching of screenshots," and that's something that no gamer wants to hear. Of course, mock-ups have to be done for games that aren't done yet, but we'd hope that those are marked as mock-ups, and not out there representing the product.

We're not accusing anyone -- we're just sayin'.  And I guess if you've got good Photochops and you live in the Santa Monica area, you might want to check out the listing for yourself.

Maybe those guys who made the "darker and more mature" Diablo screenshots will have something worthwhile to do. Oh wait...no.

Well, shit.

Then they wonder why the game gets a lot of hype, and fails to get a good review score.

If I made a game, I'd release the crappiest screens, so the reviews would go like: Woo, it's waaay better than we hoped for, 10/10!!!!1!

That should explain the current trend of "wait for it, wait for it, OMG It's here! Well, meh"

Ha ha! This is the job posting I was bitching about on twitter. It REQUIRES a 4 year college degree. That's it. it doesn't say what that degree should be in.

Another favorite bit is this:

• Must be even-tempered and able to interact well, under pressure, with multiple teams on multiple projects with tight deadlines

So basically, the job to be under such bullshit last minute tasks that they are EXPECTING it will push people into a rage. Awesome. I sure want a job that just going to burn me out and make me hate it.

Here is another fun one.

Individual must be able to apply knowledge, experience, and learnings to real situations to help solve problems

Isn't this just a requirement OF LIFE? Apparently the world is in sad shape when this isn't so common a skill that you just expect it.

Yeah this isn't surprising. I've known about these kind of jobs since I started attending art school.
