Activision gives free faceplate to Guitar Hero III Wii owners photo

Activision has been to hell and back since the release of Guitar Hero III for the Wii, and one can only suppose the bitching went on long after the announcement that replacement discs would be issued. The nervous twittering of PR reps likely led to Activision feeling they had to give more for screwing up, which would explain why they are offering a free faceplate (see pic in gallery) to the people who sent their discs in for a replacement.

I personally appreciate the effort, but I hope more so that the disaster this situation caused will ensure it doesn't happen again. Of course, these types of nightmares frequently pop up in the game world due to titles being rushed to their release dates. It makes the developers who focus on quality over deadlines a more highly valued rarity than ever.

I know Activision means well with the faceplate, but I can't help but think that it may backfire, pouring salt in the wound for some consumers. It's kind of like trying to bring a girl flowers after you got drunk and made out with her sister in front of both their parents, you know? Probably should have just let sleeping dogs lie. Also, I've seen the above scenario actually happen, and I can tell you, it is not pretty.

Speaking from experience?

Well I guess it's nice? It's more neat than useful or making up for before. Maybe a DLC possibility via expansion disc or something would help make up for it instead of shinies. Wiitar hero and rock band are kind of useless without DLC, given the requirement of buying new peripherals to play multi and the like

My decision to stick with the Wii instead of buying a 360 or PS3 continues to slap me in the face. What the hell was I thinking?!

Also, the faceplate is.... neat... I guess.

Why would you even bother to get the Wii version?

looks like big N isnt really facilitating an online presence that some 3rd party titles need. Stuff like Guitar Hero and Rock Band depend on new content. I mean, how many times can you sing "Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi?

I mean, the faceplate is a nice gesture. They really should have just gotten it right the first time. The sound on a rhythm game is pretty damn important and, considering what a high profile release GHIII was, there is really no excuse.

That totally makes up for shitty sound in a music based game. Way to go, Activision!

Wooh free! Next time, in Rockband Wii, "We're sorry that the sound is in mono, and that everyone gets to use wiimotes instead of instruments, but we will give you extra rubber sleeves for your wiimotes! ROCK ON!"

Since no one seems to notice, the mono sound problem was only in surround sound systems, regular stereo works fine.

They fixed the problem, but like IceMax said if you weren't playing through a surround sound system it was a non-issue. I exchanged my disk for when the kiddo gets a little older and I can actually hook the surround sound back up.

WTF? I got my replacement disc already (the Pro Logic sounds l-u-r-v-ly) but it didn't come with a faceplate. Not that it really matters ... that faceplate isn't exactly the most inspiring piece of decoration out there. Oh, well.

Oh, and Cheeburga ... fuck you.

My friend has it for Wii, and I should probably bug him to exchange it on principle, but if he got the Wii version, he probably doesn't care.
