Activision exploring an MMO-style service for Call of Duty photo

According to a mysterious survey making the rounds, Activision is considering creating an online service that would bring timed exclusive content, as well as premium extras, to the multiplayer side of the Call of Duty franchise.

The survey -- of which we can’t verify its validity, but certainly felt interesting enough to pass on -- specifically mentions that the supposed service would “enhance the multiplayer experience and provide exclusive access to a group of gameplay enhancements.” This includes early access to expansions and betas, and exclusive access to character skins, enhanced stat tracking, game modes and even “support for competitive play.”

The service may come with a monthly fee attached to it or may come bundled with a copy of Call of Duty for a flat rate. The monthly fee idea is especially interesting: in March, Activision’s Bobby Kotick hinted at the possibility of a Call of Duty MMO.

"...when you think about other properties that we own and control, like Call of Duty, and what would be the natural evolution of a property like Call of Duty into a massively multiplayer environment, and how do you monetize that," Kotick stated at the Morgan Stanley Technical Conference three billion Internet years ago.

Well, this theoretical online shell -- not quite an MMO -- is certainly one way Activision could suck more rabid fan coin.

I'm so torn. Said I wouldn't buy the game new because of the Brutal Legend saga but this could convince me otherwise. I don't think it would work for a monthly fee but I would certainly pay an extra £5 or something at PoS for the benefits.
Damn you Acti-bastard-vision, you be good at making money :(

There is no worse concept than to try to continually bill someone for an experience you could get for free.

just give me the lego city MMO..

all these other MMO games are dumb. why do companies keep thinking these are good ideas. everyone is just saying "but if we do it with one of our IP's everyone will sign up and we will be rich forever. HAHAHAHAHA"

to bad most MMO drop of the planet in a month. with some exceptions of course. but they did something right.it wasnt about money then as much as it is now. it was about getting players together.

this service will definitely will be good for gamers. I am not sure if the gamers will pay the monthly fee. The game is so expensive then you add a monthly fee which is not good.

I really really really hate MMOs. I just can't stand Word of Warcraft and I would lose all respect for Call Of Duty if they began a subscription.

I really don't think this would go anywhere. Its going to be a flop. The MMO sector is way overdone already. This make money online blog has all the information needed already. Why create a game out of it?
