Remember last year when Activision proved just what a bastard it is by trying to sell Modern Warfare 2 for £55? Well, according to recent retail listings, the fiends are at it again. Call of Duty: Black Ops is already up for pre-order via a number of outlets, and you guessed it -- Activision wants fifty-five queenquids.
To be fair to the retailers, most of them aren't being scummy and have slashed £10 from the RRP already, but the simple fact is that Activision, yet again, is charging a premium rate for its game just because it feels it can get away with it, and that's pretty damn grotesque. Unfortunately, Call of Duty fans have only themselves to blame, as they have demonstrated, time and again, that they're willing to let Activision charge whatever it likes for games and DLC.
Nevertheless, dumping an ever fiver onto the asking price is still inherently disgusting and arrogant. I really wish that Activision could be a little less prickish sometimes. Would it really kill them to, y'know, not act like a bunch of c*nts, just every now and then?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
@ Xzyliac - Can I be an American? Check this out....
"Howdy pardner, Gawd Dammit..."
You can be that one type of Anerican even Americans hate but I doubt it'll work towards your cause.
Not like I'd buy it anyway.
Also in five minutes, we have reports of several planes actually FLYING. And the sky is still blue.
Then it was £25 at Sainsbury on release day and all was forgiven.
That, and supermarkets swill do a pricewar again which renders all the outrage null and void, just like with ME2. CoD:BO for 20 quid? I'll take it.
That's my Pachter for today!
I was angry at their price hike, but when I saw I could get it cheaper than pre-owned was going to be for months; all was forgiven.
Also, I didn't feel like a sell-out bitch at the time...but now you've got me looking back on it...
Those people will be outraged for it, and then outrageously buy the game, and outrageously pay in the register, and then outrageously go to their outraged houses to play it, outrageously; while Activision thanks them for their money.
It has happend before...
Activision expecting me to pay £55 for a games.
Activision expecting me to buy another Call of Duty game.
Activision expecting me to ever buy one of their games again.
Im blaming the accursed Chavs.
55 pounds is only 4.2 euros more
I will never give Activision a single dollar.
I don't even live in the UK or buy Call of Duty games buy I'm still gonna give you a big middle finger for fucking over your consumers just because you can.
You are fucking assholes.
Activision does this because they can. Because they KNOW their fans are the type of person to pay this much for a game, 15 for a map pack and 25 for a mount.
We don't care how you talk. You're not one of us until you wear an American flag on your head.
I encourage everyone with a ps3 only to do this with people you trust and know personally, but I encourage you none the less.
side note: I tried to rent W@W with my brothers delinquent blockbuster account and also buy a beetlejuice action figure. The associate told me I couldn't rent the game, rang me up for the beetlejuice figure, and put the game, along with beetlejuice, in my bag and handed me my receipt.
Free W@W FTW!
