Activision does it again: CoD: Black Ops is 54.99 in UK photo

Remember last year when Activision proved just what a bastard it is by trying to sell Modern Warfare 2 for £55? Well, according to recent retail listings, the fiends are at it again. Call of Duty: Black Ops is already up for pre-order via a number of outlets, and you guessed it -- Activision wants fifty-five queenquids.

To be fair to the retailers, most of them aren't being scummy and have slashed £10 from the RRP already, but the simple fact is that Activision, yet again, is charging a premium rate for its game just because it feels it can get away with it, and that's pretty damn grotesque. Unfortunately, Call of Duty fans have only themselves to blame, as they have demonstrated, time and again, that they're willing to let Activision charge whatever it likes for games and DLC.

Nevertheless, dumping an ever fiver onto the asking price is still inherently disgusting and arrogant. I really wish that Activision could be a little less prickish sometimes. Would it really kill them to, y'know, not act like a bunch of c*nts, just every now and then?

Buying all their stuff used and none of their DLC becomes easier and easier the more of this behavior I see from them.

No Activision, thats a BAD Activision. On the funny side, you can pick up DJ Hero for less than that.

@ Xzyliac - Can I be an American? Check this out....

You wait, this is just the beginning, what annoyed me so much about the Bungie deal was that Activision are going to do exactly the same thing with there games and DLC I know it.

oh such imperialists these dirty American capitalist pigs! Why must Activision bombard the UK with such high video game prices?! Woe be to the British people who submit and sell/buy these games!

@RonBurgandy2010 - Here here. Activision making up their own prices sets a dangerous precedent for every triple-A release.

All this shit about this for MW2.

Then it was £25 at Sainsbury on release day and all was forgiven.

Aw, now 5% of people who read the internet and are outraged will not buy it, meaning it will still dominate the UK charts for weeks.

That, and supermarkets swill do a pricewar again which renders all the outrage null and void, just like with ME2. CoD:BO for 20 quid? I'll take it.

That's my Pachter for today!

To be fair, I didn't see one outlet selling it at 55quid. Same will apply here most likely.

@Professor Pew - That's a fair point, I got MW2 for £25 just like Aurian and Zepwich at Sainsbury's.

I was angry at their price hike, but when I saw I could get it cheaper than pre-owned was going to be for months; all was forgiven.

Also, I didn't feel like a sell-out bitch at the time...but now you've got me looking back on it...

@Professor Pew: You are overreacting...
Those people will be outraged for it, and then outrageously buy the game, and outrageously pay in the register, and then outrageously go to their outraged houses to play it, outrageously; while Activision thanks them for their money.
It has happend before...

They can charge whatever they want, people will still go buy it. Buyers are the ones to blame, not Activision.

I don't know whats funnier.
Activision expecting me to pay £55 for a games.
Activision expecting me to buy another Call of Duty game.
Activision expecting me to ever buy one of their games again.

Not exactly surprising considering how well MW2 did in the UK despite the price tag. I guess Activision wants to put the UK on par with the rest of Europe when it comes to prices. Most new games have a price tag of €70 (About £60) here. Still a sad news for UK gamers.

Why don't you guys follow my lead and... oh, I don't know... not buy games that cost more than you're willing to pay? I recently relapsed when I bought the Dragon Age expansion pack for $40. I only reaffirmed to me why I restrict myself the way I do. SPEAK WITH YOUR $$$.

And hordes and hordes of retards thought: Wow, this cheap? AGAIN? I hope this means we'll also get another map pack for just 15 bucks this time...

Activision does this because they can. Because they KNOW their fans are the type of person to pay this much for a game, 15 for a map pack and 25 for a mount.

Thank you PS3 account share. I payd 5 bucks for the map pack and only had to buy one of the three W@W map packs.

I encourage everyone with a ps3 only to do this with people you trust and know personally, but I encourage you none the less.

side note: I tried to rent W@W with my brothers delinquent blockbuster account and also buy a beetlejuice action figure. The associate told me I couldn't rent the game, rang me up for the beetlejuice figure, and put the game, along with beetlejuice, in my bag and handed me my receipt.

Free W@W FTW!
