Activision announces Guitar Hero Greatest Hits photo

Activision announced earlier today Guitar Hero Greatest Hits during their financial conference call. The game will be comprised of the songs Guitar Hero fans liked the most from Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero III and Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. All of these repackaged songs from the earlier games will be remade to work with all of Guitar Hero World Tour’s instruments. Guitar Hero Greatest Hits will be out sometime within the next two quarters for the Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3.

It's really annoying seeing that this is just going to be a repackaging of songs people already bought. Why don't they just re-release all of the older songs as DLC? Whatever, I'm just glad I'm not into these games. I can just play Simon Says while listening to my iTunes library on shuffle and have the same experiences. Oh no he didn't!

I'm so done with Music Games. I'm moving onto Fighting Games and RPGs this year.

I am honestly not surprised they are doing this, but I already have Guitar Hero II and III and all of the songs in the original Guitar Hero are fun but I have played it to death, so I have no reason to get this. Cool for everyone that just wants a compilation, but GH: Aerosmith isn't that awesome.

Oh god.
This is somewhat intriguing since there were some really great tracks in the previous GHs, but some of them have actually become unplayable to me.

Depending on if they're all masters (which I assume they have to be), and the content they pack (which i'm assuming isn't much), I may have to check out.

Dammit Activision, do you WANT me to hate you? Is that what you want? Because you're making it just a little too easy to do that these days.

Shame on you, Activision! This is why I bought ROCK BAND, and not your POS Guitar Hero games. I can keep my entire song collection in RB from one game to the next. You, however, expect me to buy all of your stupid game discs just to have a big song library. Enough is enough! You suck, your game sucks, your peripherals suck, and your stupid overcharted songs suck! Viva La Harmonix!

This sort of makes sense for Wii owners, who never got a shot at GH and GHII, but for everyone else this is moronic.

Recharting these old songs, adding new instruments, and replacing the covers with masters? Sure, sounds great. I'm on board with making those songs playable again.

When old songs come out as Rock Band DLC, everyone gets stoked, but when they're put on a disc by Activision it's milking all of a sudden. I just don't get it.

If all the covers are replaced with master tracks, then this could be enjoyable - I've wanted stuff like Queen's Killer Queen in a band game for a while now - but it's a shame that this is GHWT and not Rock Band...

oh come on. this is a great idea. first of all with the hammer ons and pull offs being improved over the life of the GH series, playing some of the songs from the first guitar hero will be awesome now. i rememeber going back and playing bark at the moon and cowboys from hell and not being able to do so because you can barley hammer. plus the addition of drums and vocals on some of the old classics like hanger 18 and freebird. come on. i dont see how anyone wouldnt think this is great idea. put them on a disk and youll prob play 29.99. put them as DLC and youll be paying about 1.99 a song. which if GH80s or areosmith where any clue the disk will have about 30 songs. do the math. im with ya banana kid.
anybody back me up on this? nick? critialdamage? god? anyone...

Banana Kid there will be some masters (Monkey Wrench and Laid to Rest are likely candidates) but likely covers will be making an appearance indefinitely.

HungLaser, don't expect back up.

HungLaser: The game will be $60, no chance it would be $29.99.

Not in a million years. Activision loves whoring franchises, and they will charge as much as humanly possible for this ridiculous fucking thing.

To play the songs I loved so much in the previous GH games (Bark at the Moon, Cowboys from Hell, Freebird, etc.) in a full band...in my honest to God opinion...is epic win. To me. My opinion.

Especially since I don't have GH3 for my 360...yet. lol.

I would buy it. I don't care if it is 60 bucks. I always wanted to play Freebird in a full band. :D

OH! What if they re-release Thunderhorse from Dethklok and put in the version from Dethalbum! That would be awesome!

...but that would kill drummers. lol.

So this is a pretty smart decision on Activision's part. Provided they pick and choose the songs smartly, this could be a nice package.

I get the "well, you can get more songs for the money thing," but I don't necessary agree that's better for me (or gamers). For one, I enjoy being able to pick and choose my collection. If Activision throws together a greatest hits package, it can't be guaranteed that I'll love all of the songs on the disc. It's possible that some of my money won't be well-spent.

Now considering that they already have a game in place that should theoretically allow downloads of these songs -- Guitar Hero World Tour -- this rubs me the wrong way. Releasing the songs via DLC and also releasing the package seems like a good way to go, but there's no indication they'll do that (and they probably won't).

At the end of the day, I've become accustomed to putting one disc in my console and having the option to choose one of 500 or so songs. This seems archaic to me, and a cheap money grab. But again, it's smart business, and you can't say Activision haven't been smart with business.

Ah Guitar Hero under the reign of Activision.

Guitar Hero, is the new Tony Hawk.

On a positive note, I don't mind them making it playable with all the instruments from World Tour, but I'm fairly positive it's not the master tracks from those games. Something tells me that they're just going to port those songs directly from those games. Just watch.

If I'm wrong, I'll be happy.

they should make all of this available for free if you have the 'older' versions of the game...

I've got every guitar hero ( except Rock The 80's and Aerosmith ), just let me send them a pic with all my crap and then have them send me a 'voucher' to get all the games for free?

I mean, why the hell would I pay for what I already have???

I wanna know a) what songs they will pick and b) if the songs can then be imported into future games or into WT. If they can, it's essentially a bunch of DLC on a disc and that's okay with me, cause the price will probably be worth it on a per-song basis. I love some of those old songs, especially from the original Guitar Hero.
