Act surprised: Soulcalibur IV Vader and Yoda character DLC coming to 360, PS3 photo

Well, it's not as if anyone didn't see this coming. Japanese gaming Web site Degenki Online is reporting that next week, playable Yoda and Darth Vader will be available as Soulcalibur IV downloadable content on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 respectively.

Available in Japan on October 23, Yoda will set PS3 owners back 600 yen (about $6), and Darth Vader will cost 360 gamers 400 MS Points ($5). These are prices for the Japanese DLC only, and while no North American or European release has been announced, we're sure the pricing for both pieces of DLC will be in line with one another when it is.

So, it's Vader versus Yoda -- are all of your wildest dreams coming true or what?

Has anyone gone through the game's files? Why do I get the feeling that besides being totally expected this is also pay to unlock content?

What? Is Scamco at it again? Or is this genuinely giving the fans what they want... for a price. The fear of online console gaming manipulation I have, starts to rise when I hear things like this. For now, I'll continue to stay away from Namco games.

Tekken 6 will be a good chance to see what this company really thinks about its players and how far they want to push things like this. The amount of possible DLC in a new Tekken game could be astounding considering how much awesomeness was put in to 5. I fear we'll have to pay for all the little extra bonuses now that we used to get included with the original game. But we'll see.

Who could have possibly seen this coming? Consider my mind blown. This is the stuff of dreams. Totally didn't see them even considering this. Why, it's not like there's a blank space right next to Yoda/Vader, waiting to be filled with a downloadable unlock code.

It's like I'd really rather save my money for Street Fighter 4!

Now we can end the discussions of who would win. Actually, we could before. Yoda wins by cheapness.

:O <--- surprised face.

But seriously, fuck you Namco. That's ridiculously cheap business tactics. The other DLC is bad enough, (we don't have it in Europe yet but I saw it on the US Store) but this just made it even worse.

So... we have to pay to unlock something?
Wow, I mean, the files are already there!

Could this be worse than that horse armour DLC. Just one character? Jeez...

Nice of them to wait a bit for some people to forget about the conversations that predicted this.

my innate need to unlock every character in a fighting game will be the reason I pick this up. Also, star wars was cool once and I was there goddammit!

Are you kidding me? 400 points? I'll happily hoard my 4000+ points from previous deals in the hope of future games, but fuck me if I'm paying half a game for Vader.

I bet you the download content doesn't really do anything other than unlock content. That was already buried inside each disc. In other words. They had the idea to do this all along. So in each game. The characters were in the final code, but impossible to unlock. Unless NAMCO sells you this 400 point DLC. Sneaky Namco.

ha really 1 character is in NO way worth even 5$ when they already wrote the damn code for it and are just being greedy bastards...plus i've got a ps3 and therefore vadar never was a fan of yoda and he's too short to be actually used in a "fair" fight
