Who would have guessed that a condensed, affordable take on a immensely popular series such as Battlefield would have performed well on Xbox LIVE? It's all about the brand, people!
Major Nelson recently posted the LIVE activity for the week of July 6 and, unsurprisingly, Battlefield 1943 was able to top the Xbox LIVE Arcade list, beating out poor ol' Worms 2: Armageddon. This wasn't at all shocking to me based on the game's server problems, which are supposed to be fixed now.
As for the retail XBL activity list, Battlefield 1943 comes in after Halo 3, the two Call of Duty titles, and Gears of War 2. Not a bad start, honestly. It will be interesting to see if the game's massive following sticks around, as XBLA games tend to lose their online community after a few months.
And simply because it's kind of relevant, here's a status update on the Coral Sea challenge. When players rack up 43 million kills, a new map/mode will be unlocked for everyone. At the time of writing, Xbox 360 players are at 39,503,444 and the PlayStation 3 community is at 20,567,588. We're getting there!
Can't wait for the next map :]
As for the server troubles, I played last night without any issues whatsoever. BIG improvement from last week and over the weekend. I'd say the connection issues are behind us.
Now if they could only fix it to where all my shots hit somebody. ;)
Did you play it? With 24 players, its enough action and chaos going on allready!
One question, whats the difference between a game like maybe bf43 or CoD4 with 24 players and high spawning rate and a game like MAG with 256 players? I mean, it doesnt make a difference, if the spawning rate is high enough, think about it!
No.
But seriously, this game is great and I enjoy it very much.
Logic = If I can see my ass, I can protect my ass.
I have to say though that third-person doesn't work all the time. For example, trees on some parts of the map kept blocking my view in third-person when I was driving a tank around on Wake Island.
