I like that it's not the same as it used to be. Nearly 99% of flight fighter sims after ace combat came out were just rip-offs, see HAWX.
Not sad if this means less time flying circles around each other. Very sad though if it means no more blowing up absurd, impossible constructs. Won't be sad either if we're not told to dance with the angels either.
It sure as hell isn't be Ace Combat 7, any fan of the series would not consider what they saw in that trailer as anything indicative of an Ace Combat game at all. Ill still buy it because I buy every single AC game in existance, (except 6 since I don't have a 360) but I'm hoping AC7 follows a more AC like feel and not Modern Warfare in the sky.
I love turn and burn and find more actiony flight games really *really* dull so I'm bummed. No big deal though, I can live without Ace Combat.
Yeah uh, no thanks. Ace Combat 6 was pretty goddamn actiony, this is entirely unnecessary and dumb. Bring back my awesome absurd fictional countries and stories you bastards.
There's a reason they're trying to change the game series now. The sales of the beloved franchise have sucked outloud lately. Ace Combat 4 and 5 sold nearly 3 and 2 million copies respectively. Their changes in Zero made abysmal sales, AC6 didn't even sell a million on the 360, and the PSP games have done no better.
I'll be the first to admit that there's something missing from the games since 4 and 5... a good goddamn story. Instead they've decided to change the gameplay and try to hook an entirely different audience. I'll rent this, but if the stories of old are gone, then I'll pay as much attention to this as I do HAWX: very little.

At the end, is that a Raptor out-Kulbit-ing a Sukhoi? (I know "out-Kulbit-ing" isn't a proper term.) Good lord they're taking the whole thing about close-range assault seriously, even if they have to force long-range-optimized fighters into it!

I felt like Zero was just meant as a shorter, lower budget backstory to AC5.
6 wasn't a huge success because of that dumb 360 exclusivity. Hopefully they make up for it in AH.

I totally agree that there were many things outdated in the ace combat games and I'm very happy that they have decided to bring something new for the fans.
This is a genre that over the years has become more and more predictable. All the flight combat games out there nowadays use the same repetitive features and gameplay.
I prsonally loved the all new close range system which allows you to take out your enemies in such close range angles, not to mention the new concept they have created and named steal carnage system, which gives you the taste of seing the debris and oil spew from you enemies' planes.
I think it's way more personal and adrenalin pumping to blow up your enemy at close range than at a far distance, but despite of all excitment, I am 100% sure they will not force you to fly all through the game enslaved to such perspective.

Ohh gosh, I really wish I read the reviews. I could have saved myself some headache, time, and 60 bucks. Such a terrible waste.
Just a heads up on any fans of the series still on the fence, I'd say don't buy it. Not until it's at least dropped it's hefty price tag, or patched out that aneurism inducing 'new flight system'.
From what I could tell, the story looked at least a little more stable. And the Graphics here pretty good looking, but looked forced due to that degenerative flight system. If you want nearly a carbon copy of HAWK's, then you'll love this game. If you liked Ace Combat 6, you'll need to treat a game such as this as radioactive material.
I remember when I first got it at it's release, I rushed home, put it in. Tried to play it REALLY hard for about 4 hours, shut my console off, and considered calling my Doctor for some Prozac because the game was such a disappointment. I'm a pretty hard-core fan of the AC series, and this game has shaken my beliefs in it.
I warn any fans of the series out there, DO NOT get this game! Don't make the same mistake I have!!!
