IGN has just reported that Xseed Games (the publishers of the addictive Retro Game Challenge) has picked up the North American release rights to widely acclaimed Japanese Wii RPG/adventure game Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon.
Previously, Namco Bandai had hinted that the company would not publish the title in the U.S., so this news comes as quite the pleasant surprise.
In Fragile, players take on the role of a young boy in a post-apocalyptic world, who -- armed with a flashlight -- sets off on a journey to find a girl he has become obsessed with. Along the way, the boy solves puzzles and fights off a variety of enemies to get to the bottom of the girl’s disappearance.
You can read IGN’s interview with localization manager Kenji Hosoi right here to get more details on the exciting news!
What do you think? Are you super excited to see the gorgeous Fragile make its way here? Do you think this is exactly the kind of game the Wii needs to help expand its software library? And, just because there weren’t enough capital letters in this post: OMG I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!
[Thanks, Phoenix Gamma!]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
And since XSEED had said that the decision to bring this game to the US would depend on how well Retro Game Challenge sold, is it too much to hope that if this sells well, they'll change their minds and release Retro Game Challenge 2 here?
here's hoping that RGC, RGC's sequel and Fragile get PAL release dates eventually!
Can companies like Xseed actually...love? This may prove it.
oh...
?
It's funny that you would use the word "obsession" to describe the boy's relationship to the girl.
If there's Braid-style angle the boy's obsession in Fragile, then sign me up!
Any idea of when it will hit shelves on this side of the Pacific?
*goes to commit seppuku*
my fuckin brain...
Kinda creepy as well seeing though its post-apocalyptic.
Either way, HELL YES.
Actually, I first thought this was a Fraggle Rock game. Alas.
This is most definitely great news, especially considering how Namco Bandai had relatively high hopes for this game (two year development, big marketing presence, selling into a large userbase with few RPGs, etc.).
While the premise is interesting and the non-fighting portions look intriguing, my one concern with the game is that the 'combat' looks like balls. Whose bright idea was it to keep the camera directly behind the player while attacking?
I truly wish that the game had gone completely for exploration. Sort of like MP1 without the pew pew pew.
This is the best news ever. I don't know who I love more, XSEED or Atlus.
Also, LIT totally kick-started the Wii's new trend: using the Wiimote as a flashlight. This, Silent Hill, Ju-On...
Haha. Oops. Fixed! :)
also, chad, noah's arc. yaaaaaaaaaaaaay. :-D
I wasn't expecting this.
MAN, I can't wait to play this... gorgeous game. I need more Japan in my Wii
THANK YOU!
Sigh, sorry XSEED. I'll throw you my money but will everyone else?
The answer is no.
HAHAHAHA! I love you. :)
