Accent Core controls announced -- guaranteed to create hilarious YouTube videos photo

So the other day I mentioned Guilty Gear: Accent Core for the Wii. Now, IGN brings word of what the controls for the Wii are going to be -- and let me say, I want to cry after reading their description.

With this control scheme, you use the nunchuk analog stick to move your character and guard. The nunchuk and Wiimote can be shaken to perform standard attacks. You perform specials by holding buttons while shaking.

Just...imagine that. I can understand this sort of flailing around for Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, but Guilty Gear is so fast paced that trying to actually play, and pull of some of the more intense combos, are going to be very awkward to pull off. At least this means that for all those who will own the Wii version, they'll be able to put up some hilarious Youtube videos.

Now, why am I kvetching on the front page about this? I really don't think that this fighter should be on Nintendo systems. Sorry, but between this and Dust Strikers, Sammy should keep this on the PS2/3 or 360, unless a nice arcade pad comes out for the Wii.

Now, if a fighting game was designed based around the Wii controls, that could lead to some interesting results. Are you thinking of what I am? C'mon designers -- I'm looking forward to a Wii-specific fighter, whether it be 2D or 3D.

[Thanks for sending this one in, Necros!]

I honestly don't think traditional beat 'em ups will ever work that well with motion controls. Even smash bros. is using the classic controller, like. The only series I think would have potential would be soul calibur. The mostly simple, weapon based controls could be a decent fit for the wiimote. That said, a non-1vs.1 button masher, like god hand, could be fucking amazing with wiimote & nunchuck.

You can count on seeing a bunch of custom arcade sticks being made to accomodate this game's release on the Wii.

Even the classic controller isn't good enough, or properly laid out for decent 2D fighter gaming.

I agree, Wii is a terrible choice for this game. However, people will make due with what they got.

Yep, and hard. I laughed when I saw the Metal Slug Controls, and this is going to be even worse. Ah well...at least it'll provide material for a Guilty Gear themed contest later... ;)

I hope to see decent looking women in Guilty Gear outfits plying the game on youtube. But I doubt that will happen.

I assume that it will support the classic controller, right? I'm actually starting to like that controller it fits my hand just right.

Yeah, I'm also assuming this game will support the clasic Controller, I'm sure I've seen this confirmed somewhere.

So, seeing how the classic Controller is basically a re-designed Super Famicom pad, which is very similar to the Playstation pad which has remained the same since the PS1, and seeing that nobody has a problem (including me) with the 2D fighters that were on the PS1, PS2 & no doubt PS3 which also uses the same PS1 pad which is also similar to the Super Famicom pad, which is very similar to the Classic Controller, why is this even an issue?

I have plenty of 2D fighters on the Dreamcast, the pad is not ideal but as long as you can hold it horizontally, use the d-pad and have enough buttons, I don't see a problem, in fact there is no problem here whatsoever.

I don't want to shell ouot the money for the classic controller -- I'd just be plugging in my Gamecube one instead. Also, the classic controller was confirmed in the previous GG post.

Sorry Necros, forgot. I'll update it.

Bleep, sorry to disappoint, but I'm not ready for a motion-sensing bra. I'm still wearing undershirts... :( I weigh only a bit more than Ron Workman, so I'm not exactly a fattie.

Ugh, why must every single Wii game come with "added waggle"? At least I have classic controllers, but where's our arcade stick? :(

Much obliged, DMV.

And if anyone hasn't bought a classic controller by now, you really should jump on the bandwagon. It's really very nice, and there are some circumstances when a Gamecube controller really isn't right for a game. Such as games you can't change the button config in, like F-Zero, which accelerates with B, brakes with A, and boosts with X. (Imagine that on a Gamecube controller.)

@ Mister Disco: If you want a great arcade stick for Wii, try the X Arcade stick. It works with Gamecube and therefore works with any Gamecube-compatible game.

Yay for Pre-Reviews! So what, you're gonna give this game whom none of us have played a 4.5 or so? Neet. Thanks for telling me what to think about something that doesn't actually exist in a consumable format yet. This is the worst part about the game industry. No one passes judgement on a movie or album until at least some finalized scenes or tracks are released, and then, the trend is generally to wait until the product is released for the final smackdown. I understand that this blog attracts wii-detractors, but seriously, can we wait to play a game until we say it sucks? Or at least quantify our statements by saying "It seems to me that unless X and Y change, this game is going to suck" ?

In light of these arguments, I'm going to say that Hillary Clinton is the worst president ever.

-> TheStripe: Oh really? People don't prejudge albums or films before they're released? What an incredible pillar of unbiasedness you must be. For me personally, when I hear christina aguilera(just guessed the spelling, I'm not looking it up) is releasing a new album, my first thought isn't "I should really listen to that because it might be good." Or when scary movie gets another crappy sequel, I do not regard verifying it suckiness first-hand to be of the upmost importance. Guilty gears is a fast paced, complicated move-driven fighter. Shoehorning motion controls into that type of game just seems pointless to me. I haven't used the classic controller, so I won't comment on how good it is for beat 'em ups(although, I don't see why there'd be any problem). Seeing as the series is always 2D anyway, the wii's as good a system for it as any, my complaints were strictly with the motion control aspect.

Naw. I thought you were thinking of Bushido Blade.

Incidentally, the idea of Bushido Blade on the Wii nearly made me faint with joy.

@Brad - Point taken. But I wasn't coming after you. You should've been my example for "It seems to me that unless X and Y change, this game is going to suck", you know, the levelheaded approach? I was mostly lamenting that those calling "SUCKFEST" don't seem to realize there's no way for this to suck just yet.
