Aban Hawkins goes Street Fighter, Castlevania and more

6:00 PM on 02.15.2014

Aban Hawkins and the 1,001 Spikes is almost ready for release, with a total of 18 playable characters currently ready to go. We've already heard about Commander Video (Bit.Trip), Nyx (Nyx Quest), Thompson, Sugimoto, and Zombie (Tempura of the Dead), leaving plenty to the imagination regarding the remainder of the cast.

A close inspection of this new playthough of the game reveals a lot of new playable characters, most of whom are protagonist Aban Hawkins in various degrees of cosplay. There's Slayer Aban (inspired  by Castlevania?), Adventure Aban (inspired by Uncharted?), Soldier Aban (inspired by Contra?), Fighter Aban (inspired by Street Fighter?) Knight Aban (inspired by Ghosts 'N Goblins?), and Ninja Aban (inspired by Ninja Gaiden?). As for all new characters, we get a clear view of El Testigo ("from that one movie"), and a mysterious pale skinned blonde. Who could they be? What does all this mean?

Other recent previews of the game mentioned a character named "Mr. Video Game" who looks and plays like Mario. This all sounds too good to be true, but that doesn't mean it's all lies. Hopefully we'll get to find out what's really going on with 1,001 Spikes soon enough.

Nintendo knows about the Smash 3DS Peach ban problem

As we previously found out, the Japanese version of Super Smash Bros. 3DS is banning people for playing Peach online during competitive matches -- presumably because it mistook her turnip for an item hack. Nintendo is no...more

After less than week, Super Smash Bros. 3DS sold over one million

According to a statement from Nintendo, Super Smash Bros. 3DS sold one million copies during its launch in Japan. It's great news that the series can still create such a buzz and sell that much product. The only thing that bums me out is that by the time the New 3DS hits in the US, all of the people I know will make the switch over to Smash Wii U full-time. Nintendo [Twitter]more
