A word on why Worms is being delayed for XBLA photo

Quality control is a tricky beast. While Microsoft certainly wants to get gamers the games they expect every Wednesday for their Xbox Live Arcade program, they also want to be certain that what they offer is as solid an experience as possible.

Contra issues aside, it seems that the reason Worms for XBLA has been delayed is because it's just not up to snuff for what Msoft wants to give the public. Team 17 boss Martyn Brown had this to say to Eurogamer about the issue:

"The delay with Worms for XBLA has been as frustrating for Team17 as it has been for the very many players eager to see it's release," Brown told Eurogamer this morning.

"It's been a case of the last cycle of production/testing and certification taking much longer than we would have hoped. We know we aren't the only case, but that doesn't ease the frustration."

Just say the game was delayed...

acting like quality control is so hard, then why do we see so many crap games...

stop with excuses, and just use "delayed"

As I always say, I'd rather have a developer take their time with a game and make sure everything is perfect instead of rushing out a POS.

Did they ever fix Contra at all? I've got a friend who wants to buy it, but I keep telling him not to...

Baratation, yes, i've picked up this stupid game, gunbound, which is like a worms clone, just to get myself pumped for worms online with my friends.

Summa always has such a different tone when it comes to MS. I love my 360, but I don't think I can beat Summa's love for Billy.

last time someone used the delayed due to quality excuse we ended up with the superman returns game in November, we all know how well that turned out

in the end it's just another live title that lives for a week then never discussed again..

No, but I'm a total whore for praise! Every day at lunch half a dozen of us would go to the school library and cram in as many rounds of that game as we could, sort of like playing speed chess with tanks. God that was awesome.

i remember we'd sneak playing scorched earth all the time in school and starting games with people. we got pretty good at sneaking it until one day my computer teacher put a screen recorder on someones computer and caught them playing it. safe to say, scorched earth and all scorched earth mirrors were locked down in the school district.

p.s. if anyone liked the old school scorched earth, you'll love scorched earth 3d www.scorched3d.co.uk/downloads.php

I'd rather they delay it and get it right than release it and mess it up on Contra proportions.

Yeah I am actually looking forward to this game. I love me some Worms though it has been a long time since a good 'new' one has come out. The series hasn't translated well into 3D and the game they released for the DS and PSP was weak. I'm hoping this is the game I've been waiting for.

Does anyone else get the feeling that there's an internal problem at Microsoft, regarding XBLA?

Obviously they have no problem getting new games to put on XBLA, seeing as they're M$ and would buy Africa if it was profitable. Every single one of their new releases is houdned by delays, bugs, and complaints though. A lot of developers always point the blame at this final "certification process."

Now that two of the top XBLA bosses have abandoned ship, you wonder what's wrong here. Does Live have some horrible networking protocols? Is the XBLA department at MS just organized horribly? I can't imagine all this fuss for just having "strict requirements."

Hm... Microsoft doesn't release a game in time, and we all need to recognize that they're just doing everything they can to give us the greatest gaming experience possible.

Sony/Ninty release a game late and we all need to recognize that they are useless pieces of garbage that don't deserve any of our hard-earned money.

I call double standard!

Good for MS if Quality Control is the real issue here. I remember how Ninty was praised by most on here for forcing Elebits back so that Konami could get it up to snuff. Could it be that gaming companies actually take pride in their products?? How... un-American!

Screw all that jazz with the VC and XBLA for 8/16-bit games. They've got most old school controller to USB adapters out there. Get one of those, and an emulator, and you're in business. To top it off, emulation for the NES, Genesis, and SNES has been damn near perfected for quite awhile. Many emulators have online play, as well. Most of them have pretty shitty online emulation, but most of the emulators that are worth using in the first place, pull off the online aspect pretty well.

I've dealt with certification from Sony, MS, and Nintendo, and all of them are huge sticklers for quality. Not necessarily in terms of fun, but for making sure there are no crashes, the game loads and saves properly, etc. The really nitty-gritty that most gamers take for granted. Making sure a game is 100% in regards to standards is a bastard, but it has to be done to make sure no one loses a save or gets a crash.

Besides, it's Worms. It's fun, and you can wait a week. Go play Crackdown or something.

Good. Finish it and release a polished product not a crappy rushed one. Worms is awesome and will be a much-longer-played XBLA title than others.

Worms is going to be great on Xbox Live. Hopefully they are actually perfecting it rather than just making it good enough to go.

Back in the Dreamcast days my friends and I would have some awesome 4 player worms action just about every weekend. I look forward to more.

I would much rather MS make sure there's no quality control problems with a game rather than release something that could end up bricking a system or the like. Let them triple check it if they need to.

Wow...Worms brings back memories. I used to play Worms Armageddon constantly until I upgraded to XP, then I found out it didn't work on XP for some strange reason no matter what I tried. Some time after I found a copy of Worms Blast in some secondhand store and I got so happy. I installed it and started to load a game and was so ready to Holy Hand Grenade the CPU's arse and then it finally loaded the game. I remember thinking "What the heck is this?!!" (It didn't come with a case. How was I supposed to know it was a puzzle game?) I still played it though...
