A Tony Hawk game reveal draws near photo

There's little doubt that Activision is working on revitalizing the Tony Hawk franchise, after putting it on the backburner to re-think the series after getting (more or less) shown up by Electronic Art's Skate. Rumor has it the game will make use of a skateboard peripheral, which would completely change the direction of the series.

Well, if hints dropped by GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley are any indication, we may soon know for sure.

"Shooting today," he writes on his Twitter account, "hanging out with [Tony Hawk]."

Soon after, he sends a message directed at Tony Hawk himself, flat out saying he's looking forward to chatting about "the new game." If it was Keighley's intention to build up hype around an upcoming GameTrailers TV exclusive, mission accomplished. We'll be keeping our eyes out for the reveal.

That image makes it look like he was drugged, beaten, and left in a toaster.

Wait a minute, I thought either Neversoft or Activision laid off the franchise for good, so it is either beating a dead horse, or beating a dead horse with a brain dead as the manager.

See, this is why twitter rules.

I hope the new game is good, to be honest I've grown tired of the skate series, there's a pretty low cap on the kind of stuff you can do in that game.

@Monodi

Actually they have the franchise up until 2010 and they didn't release a Tony Hawk installment last year because Skate trounced them in sales.

I'm looking forward to see what they have to offer.

Title Fail. Needs more "! Command?" at the end of it.

Well I guess changing the series up will be better than having people pay full retail price for a new game, which is practically the same as about eight previous entries you can pick up for a couple of quid.

I really liked the Tony Hawk series back when I was playing it on the Gamecube, and it will be weird to see that brilliant original formula not used anymore. I won't complain though since I still have about five years of Tony Hawk's games to purchase...

What? Are they finally done beating Guitar Hero into the ground that they figured its time to rape the Tony Hawk name a little more?
