A recap of February's Monthly Musings

     Best of the Network

Last month, we kicked off the Monthly Musings theme here at Destructoid. Each month, Reverend Anthony proposes a theme that both the editors and the community can participate in. The Monthly Musings was created mostly to spawn interesting debate from all you C-Bloggers. Destructoid is all about the community and we wouldn't be anything without your support. The Monthly Musings is your chance to get promoted to the front page and keep things interesting in the C-Blogs as well.

Everyone did an awesome job with this last month and I'm looking forward to promoting even more blogs for this month's theme. Reverend Anthony will be announcing March's new theme shortly. Until then, lets take another look at the Good Idea, Bad Idea stories that were promoted for February.

Good Idea, Bad Idea: Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment

My favorite Good Idea, Bad Idea was from unangbangkay. In it, unangbangkay talked about how various games implement the Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment system. Honestly, before I read this, I really didn't fully understand what this system was about. To read that Max Payne had this system and that I never realized it before was a complete trip. It made me go back and play through the game again to try and see the system in action.

Good Idea, Bad Idea: The stealth level

OrangeGoblin's Good Idea, Bad Idea on the stealth level was another one of my favorites. Mostly due to the Call of Duty 4 bit. That really was a fantastic level. It had the perfect balance between stealth and action. Plus, shotting down a helicopter with a high-powered rifle is pretty neat too.

Good Idea, Bad Idea : Voice acting

Voice acting is something that makes or breaks a game for me. I can't get through a game if the voicing is horrible. I've been hearing a lot of praise for Personna 3 and I think I'll finally pick it up thanks to Gen here.

These were my favorite of the 13 that were promoted. Hopefully, I promote double the amount for March. This feature is still evolving so look for some added incentive in the future (PRIZES!).

Here's the rest of the promoted stories for the month of February:

Which one did you like the best?

I was a fan of Y0j1mb0's rant about difficult games. But I agree with ZServ, all of them were fantastic reads.

I liked mine the best, but then again, I'm slightly biased.

But seriously, the one that interested me the most was the Self-adjusting difficulty article too. I've written a similar piece before for another website, so it was interesting to see someone else's take on the system's dynamics.

Thank you Hamza. I like the musings. Those blogs usually aren't simple copy/pastes. I like to read opinions of my fellow Dtoiders. I wonder what the next theme is.

I thought they were all really good. My vow is to write one before the last day of the month this time.

unangbangkay's article was really interesting as the topic was one that I didn't really know anything about and wouldn't have even thought about... but they were all good way better than mine.
Hopefully I can kick my bad student habit of leaving things right up until the deadline the next day and get a write up in on time.

I can't think of a single bad one. I had one but ultimately I couldn't get it finished in time.

@ HarassmentPanda

Yeah, same here. My first attempt at a full length article got read by like 2 people. I've gotta stop procrastinating.

Yours was better than mine by a long shot, though. I blame sleep deprivation and cough medicine.

There were a bunch of good ones. I had an idea for one, but it wasn't going in the direction I wanted, so I stopped it to come back to another time.

I really enjoyed the article from that KamikazeTutor lad.
Such a good read it was.
So delightful that left me craving for a tea party.
You chaps should go back and read it.
Cheerio!
