"Zensational?” Really?

505 Games and California-based Pronto Games will be publishing and developing, respectively, The Destiny of Zorro, a Wii exclusive due out at the end of 2007.

Players will make an action-packed journey through the sun-scorched coast and desert landscape of early 1800s Spanish California playing as the infamous Zorro – the swashbuckling defender of the oppressed whose secret identity is the fictional wealthy caballero Don Diego de la Vega. Using the unique properties of the Wii controller, players can whip, slice and of course perform Zorro’s signature ‘Z’ slash move to bring his foes to justice.

Hmmmm, the Wiimote will be used in “innovative new ways” -- not like we haven't heard that before.

More after the jump.

Wii gamers everywhere have been screaming for one-to-one sword controls using the Wiimote since its launch (I like to pretend Red Steel never happened) -- could this be the first game to take advantage of that potential?

It would be pretty darn cool to hold your Wiimote like a sword and have every action you perform in 3D space be mapped to the controls in the game. This was partially hinted at in one Wario Ware: Smooth Moves microgame so the potential is definitely there.

To be honest, though, it would be a lot cooler to “make an action-packed journey through the sun-scorched coast and desert landscape of early 1800s Spanish California” as ... I don’t know ... Ryu Hayabusa or something. Nothing against Zorro, but, well, they call him The Gay Blade for a reason.

Check out some (very early) screenshots we've attached to our snazzy gallery.

What do you think? Does this game have potential? Or are you already preparing your “meh” face for when this Wii exclusive finally drops?

That was actually Zorro's fruity twin brother in that movie. The original Zorro sprained his ankle like a total puss.

Considering the developers biggest game so far has been NickToons Winner's Cup Racing, I'm not holding my breath for this to be awesome. Who knows though? Maybe they'll pull a win out of nowhere.

Hell, I'd be more interested if it WAS based on "The Gay Blade" instead of the more serious movies. Then at least if the swordplay sucked you could laugh at George Hamilton.

I'd laugh at George Hamilton anyway, game or no game.

I was hoping for another first person hack & slash and hopefully fun unlike Red Steel, but damn does this look horrible.

Gay blade is hilarious! Antonio Banderas, who played Zorro, also played Tom Hank's gay lover in Philadelphia...THE LINK IS CLEAR so send in the troops! =P

Totally going to suck. How in fuck's name does Zorro keep getting reincarnated? He sucked back in the day, he sucked in the 90's, and he sure as hell still sucks now.

If I wanted a rich asshole who went galavanting at night in a costume, I'd go rent some Batman movies. Fuck Zorro. Period.
