A new Gauntlet game is coming from the makers of Magicka

8:09 AM on 03.17.2014

Warner Bros. Interactive has announced a brand new entry in the Gauntlet franchise, set to arrive on Steam later this year -- SteamOS and Steam Machines were specifically mentioned. Local and online play will be supported for up to four people, who will be able to select from the Warrior, Wizard, Valkyrie, and Elf classes.

They all apparently have their own unique strengths and weaknesses still, and procedural dungeons and class combos have been namedropped as features. Arrowhead Game Studios has been tapped, who you may recognize as the developers of Magicka and The Showdown Effect. The game looks pretty rough at the moment, but hopefully it smooths out before the final release.

That new Gauntlet game is out today on PC

Gauntlet is upon us yet again on Steam this week, with a PC release by developer Arrowhead Game Studios. Arrowhead is probably best known for developing Magicka -- and has carried over a simplified version of its spell system to the Wizard character in Gauntlet. We'll be checking it out soon, but so far the few user reviews that are on Steam have been positive. Gauntlet [Steam]more

Mega64's take on Gauntlet is only something they could do

Here's Mega64 taking on Gauntlet, with Rocco and others acting as the "world's biggest Gauntlet fans" demonstrating their love for the game and all it entails. Hilarity ensues, but that's to be expected.  I don't know if this tops "Chin Down, Eyes Up," but it pretty much nails the awkward stage presence I'd have if I ever chose to make videos like these. more

Max's five reasons Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor kicks ass

Like Max, I didn't know what to make of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor but taking a guarded approach has paid off -- the reviews are in and they're overwhelmingly positive. Nice surprise! Still not sure I'll rush out to grab the game at launch on Tuesday -- I've got my hands full, as I'm sure many of you will shortly -- but it's much higher on my to-play list after this week.more
