A mysterious ION-branded controller appears! photo

What's this? Some kind of videogame controller from ION Audio?

Received from an anonymous source, we've been able to find no information on this ION "Total Control" (which appears to be a game controller/keyboard/mouse hybrid controller-thingie) from the folks responsible for the premium Rock Band "Drum Rocker" controller. Looking at the ION website, it doesn't look at ION has create game controllers outside of the drums before.

Could ION be poised to make an announcement at E3? We've reached out to ION for comment, but in the meantime, someone help us figure out what this thing is. Because we've never seen anything like it, and quite frankly, we're a bit scared... it has blood all over it!

looks ugly, like something from 1995

Doesn't look very comfortable.

Rollerball second analogue stick is nifty.
Otherwise, that looks pretty horrid and uncomfortable.

How large is that thing, it looks like a pain in the ass to hold.

It could use some triggers. Maybe a few levers to be safe.

Obviously a controller for PC gaming, most likely for a FPS. Looks uncomfortable though. Probably wouldn't be so bad if the joystick and the ball weren't so close to the middle of such a huge and clunky looking controller. But who knows, perhaps the thing is smaller than the pictures make it.

Yeah, definitely looks like something for the PC. I'd say for MMOs but like The Pat Man mentioned, that track ball looking part makes me think it's FPS specific. Maybe both.

It looks like it's made for PCs with gaming in mind. I've never seen a controller that would work for both MMOs and FPSs before.

ION is goin' all in with controllers? This should be interesting.

Especially if their first outing is that thing.

Yeah wired = no sell for me either, looks kinda cool though.

The lack of triggers definately screams PC....and they're replaced by mini mice with scroll buttons? Intersting idea. If it is intended to PC gaming, you can bet everyone of those buttons is assignable, which makes it very promissing on the customizable front. I don't see it pulling many FPS players from their Mouse and keybed...there ain't a piece out there that'll top the accuracy of mouse aiming, but it may appeal to the Consol addict making the switch to PC. Looks more like a strong two footed jump into the MMO market. Way to be bold ION (couldn't care less about the wire...like many PC gamers, I prefer the stability of wired pieces without batteries and failed receivers...prob make a wireless version later anyway).

That has got to be the most backward design ever. Xbox's Duke and Atari Jaguar pad rolled into one ugly abomination of a thing.

Napalm must be used to dispose of this.

I agree with GunRunner this looks like something strictly for PC considering there are two mini mice scroll buttons. If GunRunner is correct and those buttons are assignable then that would open a world of possibiltes. Theres a "talk" button which gets my MMORPG sense tingly. Warcraft is the first thing that comes to mind. I could see myself using this for my media center IF it was wireless. With the double mini mice scroll wheels, track ball, and joystick this could make and interesting CAD mouse(if the buttons are assignable) at the very least.

ION isn't a real company...they didn't even make those drum controllers. Those were an electric drumset made by Simmons (SD5K model)...all they did was make the controller interface.

So this is a pretty interesting development.

Looks like an MMO controller to me. When I first saw it I read it as Aion instead of Ion and got really excited.

A trackball would make for brilliant FPS controls. Why haven't we seen that before?

"...it doesn't look at ION has create game controllers..."

I always knew you were secretly a lolcat, Nick Chester!

Those shoulder buttons (/wheels?) look, much like the rest of this controller, extremely uncomfortable. Which sucks because this pad has a lot of good tools, just arranged horribly.

Too damn big.. and the rollerball thing would be stupidly hard to use if you play a lot. Sweaty hands + Round objects don't mix.
