Here's some gameplay footage of Metroid: Other M. It seems focused on shooting gameplay, which appears to work well enough.

Games which present gun combat in this way should remind me of things like Smash T.V. but you know what I almost invariably see? One for the PlayStation. As a result, I'm always a little bit wary. But this looks good and appeals to my interests more than the Prime trilogy, so I'm keeping those fingers crossed.

Also, did you see the wall jumping bit in the middle? I want to see more of the acrobatic stuff because I suspect that's what this title is going to live or die on.

Glad to see they re-used some of the Prime Trilogy sound effects.

It LOOKS fun, but I just hope to god it actually plays well and similar to the Metroidvania set-up we've come to know.
If it's just Ninja Gaiden with Samus, well...

Nice and all.. but it looks really loose and annoying to control.

It's not Metroidvania if it's a Metroid game D:
just... Metroid.

@Blah

I'm kinda worried about that too. It looks hard to control with just the D-Pad.

@Blah & Mirax
I'm glad they delayed the game till the end of August, so hopefully those loose controls are fixed.

First day purchase. With bonus!

Would it have killed them to use the Nunchuck? Every Wii owner has at least one...

I'm glad that Conrad is able to man up in his articles. Rather than just saying "Nintendo put out a new trailer for Metroid: Other M and here it is" he gave us his two cents and let us know that he's not going to just blindly love this game until it is ultimately reviewed, but rather that he'll be cautiously optimistic.

Yeah the controls are what i'm worried about too otherwise i think this is going to be awesome. It may be easier to control if it supports the classic controller (which i don't have). I'm not too sure about the auto aiming any other way and it would be too hard to aim but i guess i'll see.

This game seems to have side scrolling, first person, and near the beginning of the trailer, 3rd person over the shoulder.

Truly, I'd prefer it was entirely a third person (over the shoulder) shooter.

god...if they had REALLY wanted to mimic the classic Metroid feel, they wouldn't have had that shitty ambient soundtrack, and would replace it with actual MUSIC.

Controls look really stiff and you can tell it's a D-pad just based on how rigid it is. Check out the part where Samus moves through a corridor over the shoulder style and how much the player overshoots the camera movement...dammit...

I thought the game controlled pretty well. One thing you can way about the Wii remote d-pad is that it's anything but "loose".

Samus moves like a freaking ninja and even better than in Super Metroid, I like that.

Also, lol ladies' room.

I swear when this comes out you guys are never going to see me again. I'm so excited for this.

I also really like what they did with Samus's color scheme for the different suits. I hated it at first, but I think it makes more sense now.

@Holmes

Personally, I'm more of a fan of the Classic Controller d-pad -- I think that's the best d-pad I've ever used. I'm not a HUGE fan of the one on the Wii Remote, but it's certainly not the worst one I've ever used.

Game looks decent. Like others I'm pretty worried about the controls, but either way I'm sure it's going to be a shitload of fun to play.

This looks so much like the Metroid game of my dreams it's scary. I love the Prime series, but I've always hoped it would return to a more action/adventure oriented POV. Can't wait for this.

I'm a little skeptical too how it performs with only the D-Pad. I'm not really a fan of it, escpecially when you have the 3rd person cam in small rooms and you press forware and left/right.

I wish they would in the option to play with the Nunchuk. Not that I really need analog controls, I just think that you can control better with it and your thumb doesn't get so numb. :D

To date, I think I've only heard 3 songs come out of all the footage from this game. That's not good.

@Blah- Then it'd just be Dead Space.

Also, I highly doubt we've heard the WHOLE soundtrack. I bet this is only one section of the game. I saw an E3 demo and this stage seems to be taking place in the past with the RBG.

Hopefully they add an option for Nunchuck control From the VERY FIRST mention of this game, controls were my big problem.

I just wish they stuck with a single viewpoint either 1st person or 3rd person. This game won't be able to live up to the standards of the Prime Trilogy, it just doesn't seem to have the same polish from what I can see.

Loving everything about the game so far, but where's the music? Super Metroid had a beautiful soundtrack, I hope they put in some remixes of those classics into Metroid M.

Lord, this game looks amazing. The gameplay looks great and I'm super excited for this, but those graphics! It's almost 360 quality! At the very least, as good as the higher end XBLA games.

From what we've seen so far I don't see why nunchuck controls couldn't have worked.

Watch some of the original Metroid Prime trailers that were released, you can see them at GameTrailers. None of the music in the handful of trailers I just watched actually got into the game.

When you're making a trailer like this with fast cuts between shots, you have to cut out the music or it sounds jarring and shitty. Probably all we're hearing is the ambient background noise that plays in certain environments, not the actual music.
