According to Electronic Arts, the multiplayer demo for DICE's Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is "on pace" to becoming fastest downloaded demo in the publisher's history.

The publisher says that the demo has been downloaded over 2 million times between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 within the first five days of being available. EA is more vague about the PC beta, which it says has "met great success."

Patrick Bach, Senior Producer on the title says the popularity of the demo is "proof positive that action gamers are looking for more." Whether or not it will translate to mega-sales come March 2 (when the game hits retail) remains to be seen.

In case you don't know how to play Bad Company 2 (or videogames), EA has provided a "demo tutorial" video, which you can view above to get started.

From what I can gather, people are loving the demo (which ends on February 25) -- what do you guys think so far?

So far I'm deep in love with Bad Company 2. Mainly because of the dog tag system being brought back from the first Bad Company. Love getting knife kills and adding another trophy to my wall.

Looking forward to this when it releases.

Anyone play yet? Like it better than MW2? How is the bullet hit detection? All I want to know.

I love the demo. Destructable environments complely change the way you play a war game.

Not only did I download the demo for BC2, it inspired me to go back to the original game, beat it on hard and get back into the multiplayer. Just in time for Bioshock 2 to come out and tear me away from it all! But seriously, I've got my BC2 preorder, so as soon as I do everything I want to do in rapture, it's gonna be battlefield time for a long time. Can't wait.

Its easy to go down like a chump when an unseen sniper picks you out from among the trees, but its just as easy to be the one taking out chumps. I've unlocked everything the demo has to offer gear-wise, and now I'm jonesing for a full release.

@SnatchTease: I didn't like it much, at least on the Xbox. The controls played a big part of that, so I'm hoping I'll like the PC version better.

Chances are the final game will offer a lot more control costumization than the demo did.

Downloading the demo on 360 now. Not a HUGE fan of multiplayer shooters, but hey, free demo!

It completely failed to fix the biggest problem I had with the first game - 2 or more of my friends and I form a squad, launch into a game, and find ourselves on opposite teams or not even in the same game. Their inability to balance teams and have MP work as smoothly as Xbox Live allows games to work (instead opting for their own POS system) seals the deal - I will *never* buy another EA multiplayer game.

I wouldn't count on that. The game comes out march 2nd, it's more or less done being made and is likely being printed as we speak. The demo is probably very indicative of what the final game will be like.

By that rationale the demo is the final game.

i dont understand how you would think the controls will be more customizable? they offer all the standard online multiplayer button schemes. ill admit the default was awful but i switched it to the bad company 1 style and it plays like 1943 (much more manageable)

i love how GvD said "Lone Wolf or Deathmatch tactics will not be enough"- its the exact same thing they said for the harvest day launch multiplayer tutorial for bfbc1.

wont matter tho- ill still get put in games that has 3-5 snipers standing next to an armed m-com station staring off into space...

Yep, thats the idea. Most demos, except the ones that come out many months before release day, are just snippets of the final game.

i am definitely in favor of a more customizable control scheme. i want to set my own buttons. i'm more in favor of a CoD-type setup.

My copy of MW2 will be gathering dust once this is released. The demo totally blew me away. You really get the sense of a progressing battle, and the necessity for teamwork to succeed, unlike MW2's arcade shootouts. MW2 is great, but nothing it does comes close to the joy of shelling a building flat with a squad of baddies inside.

Understandable since the PC closed beta was limited to 40000 people or so, but the day of the beta keys delivery was an online closterfuck.

Yes, the first 'bad company' game was crappy.

It is embarrassing how much I like this game.
I must have played the demo about 30 hours so far.
If that many people have downloaded it I guess they don't need to hear it from me because they know already-

Excellent sound production. The gunfire is real stereo and you can hear where shots come from. You hear sniper bullets whiz by you.
Excellent destructible environments.
Very good graphics. Not excellent. (PS3)
Projectiles kick up dust. Yes, particle physics do make games fun and more of a puzzle when you can't see anything to shoot at.
Bombs leave craters.
Vehicles flip and explode. Make boom, watch house fall down. Gun good.

Weapon sets have good flexibility to counter changing threats and strategies.

Oh and tons of morons who think they are safe because they wear gilly suits.
Good character animation, but not great. No gore sad to say.
I wish arms and legs would go in 4 directions when you hit someone in the chest with a 40mm rifle grenade.

Probably the only game I will buy for 60 dollars this year.

@SnatchTease: You pretty much have to fire in 2-3 shot bursts or you aren't going to hit ANYTHING if they are more than 4 feet away. I'm playing the beta on PC, though; not the demo. I hope they improve the shotgun, you can shoot at somebody filling the reticule and they will still kill you. I't's also way too easy to destroy the stations with C4; one person can do it with a satchel upgrade.

I'm doing the PC demo and I LOVE IT, so much better then MW2. The big thing for me is the audio, it's using dolby tech and it's amazing, it's like if BFBC2 was a really nice audio book and MW2 was text to speech, bit difference.

Just as BF:BC, I love this more than MW2. The first MW and the second pulled me in with the hype, but the online MP is just a joke to me compared to the BF series. I'll be getting the full game when it arrives, and I've only had the chance to play the demo once.

Lots of people playing Recon. Lots of high ranking people playing Recon who are NOT using the SV98, but are using the M24.

Big mistake on their part.

Bad Company 2 is great this time around. It doesn't even feel like they've changed all that much in the game but it's already many times better. Maybe it's that the knife isn't Y button anymore, and the bumpers switch your equipment... horrible nightmares about that freaky control scheme. And this one seems to be just a tad bit better at making sure when you join a game with a squad, you actually remain in that squad with your friends.
And it doesn't feel like 90% of your bullets don't really hit the target... unless you're shooting at the UAV which has God mode until you're its pilot.
This game really feels like it has some strategy to it as well. For example, since this is a demo i've found 90% of the people playing it suck and can easily be mowed through, but this effects my team as well. So just me and one friend using a little bit of strategy like teaming up in a tank to take out the objective within the first 30 seconds of the match (CDC Red Ninja btw for those who i kill doing this every match : P) we can easily win the entire round for our side.
So basically, I'm buying it.
It's great.
You should download the demo.
I need more gamertags. 255 is not enough.

The game is extremely fun. Feels like a battle, teamwork is necessary, and every class has its place. I also never feel like "that was BS!" like I do all the time in MW2.

A definite buy for me, I probably won't touch MW2 after this comes out

quite frankly its an extremely solid game i enjoy it but not as much as mw2 (although that is simply because none of my friends are playing it)I think that the main reason i dont like it is becacuse the map is huge and i cant snipe for shit. To be honest im more of a cod guy but this seems like the better game overall (only exception being the graphics)

Loving the demo...but I watched that whole video hoping they'd show me how to pilot the helicopter! I'm pathetic in one. I was great in 1943 with the planes but the helicopter control is just so awkward to me...will be buying this game first day though.

I absolutely love the demo. I missed Bad Company 1 much to my regret, but I've been a long-time Battlefield fan and have been a fanboy since the PC release of Battlefield 2 (which is still my favorite multiplayer FPS ever). Bad Company 2, to me, feels like a complete return to form. I loved last summer's 1943, and since this draws from the same engine but has a ton more content, I'm absolutely stoked...

I'm on a bit of a budget for gaming for the first half of 2010, so I actually cancelled my Final Fantasy XIII preorder to get Bad Company 2 instead. Love it.

@MasterMS: Practice with the Blackhawk, it's significantly easier to fly than the Apache. One of the main tricks to flying is that you want to almost always be pulling in the right trigger, as you lose altitude pretty much any time you start moving around. Other than that, try to keep moving around so that you are a more difficult target.

too all the people complaining bout aiming, maybe it might have something to do with your using a controller to aim instead of a precise mouse movement ^_^
sucks when the autoaim that all console FPS's have is turned down.

This one's pulled me away from my beloved MGO. Compared to the MAG demo, it's infinitely easier to get kills and everyone's not jumping around like a Halo idiot.
The Medic rocks with their belt-fed machine guns. I've mowed down assailants and revived teammates over and over. Screw sniping. I've gone commando on the attackers and gotten quite a handful of kill streaks. I've even spent whole matches just flying the UAV blowing the bejeezus out of M-Com stations.

Headsets like MAG are even better--buddy and I were working out of a tank on the attackers side last night, just bunker-busting the hell out of targets and buildings for about 10 minutes in one tank. I'd give him directions so I could work the 50-cal on targets more effectively and we has a k/d ratio of almost 2.0. NO ONE could touch us.

The game offers plenty of strategy and tactics, and as long as not everyone's running around like Rambo, you can effectively take or diffuse goals with others.

I just might pick this one up--BC 1's controls were sloppy--too bad, I really liked the characters. These have definitely improved.

Only complaint really is a lack of real ability to judge your life bar other than blood around the edge of the screen, and the incessant NPC swearing. Hey, I know it's war, but even the 1P campaign trailer went overboard on the language.
