This coming Sunday, Super Mario All-Stars 25th Anniversary Edition is out for the Wii.

It's basically a straight up port of the Super Nintendo version of Super Mario All-Stars, packed in with some fancy collectibles -- a book looking at the history of the series, and a soundtrack CD.

Nintendo sent us our copy a little early, and here's a video of my first impressions. (Spoiler: It's only $29.99 -- if you don't have All-Stars already, just buy this.)

Man what a lazy port, the bonus stuff seems pretty promising but there is no reason they couldn't have made an All-Stars 2 with World and 64 included. How many times do you need to cash in on the same games Nintendo? I almost feel like they should just hand this out to anyone who's ever bough a nintendo console.

I'm torn. I'm a die-hard Mario fan, but I know the soundtrack and book will end up on the Internet within a couple weeks. And it IS just a ROM they're selling.

Grr... I don't know what to do with this one. It's an awesome set.

Super Mario World is too easy and Super Mario 64 is garbage compared to the classic offerings of the Super Mario All-Stars collection.

I have what seems like at least 3 copies of all these games on different platforms, and this still looks absolutely amazing. I would pay 30 dollars for some of those extras alone. I guess that makes me a huge fanboy. I had to stop watching the video because my brain told me not to 'spoil' the extras by revealing them before I own it....what have I become

As much as I love those games, I don't need to buy these for the 10th time.

It's an neat special edition, but my all stars + world cartridge still works beautifully. I'd be compelled to purchase if they updated the graphics *again*, but I'm not about to buy the same exact game again on different media.

I'm still disappointed how literal the port is, but, well.. yeahh, the games are good.. still... you know.

For me, the packaging, soundtrack and CD seal the deal. I gotta agree, there is no (legitimate)reason Super Mario World was not included in this 25th anniversary edition. Lame, lame, lame. Also, a few graphical tweaks, here and there, would have been nice. Shame on you, Nintendo. Oh, well. It's still one sweet deal for four of the most amazing games ever.
Is Super Mario World the best 2D side-scrolling Mario game of all time? Hmmm... Nick, it is up for debate. It is not a fact. Just because Miyamoto says so, doesn't make it a fact. That's his opinion. For instance, if Tarantino said his best film was Pulp Fiction, I'd have to disagree.
Super Mario Bros. 3, updated on All-Stars, is the best 2D side-scrolling Mario game, in my opinion.
Also, in the All-Stars+Super Mario World SNES cartridge, you gotta love the updated Luigi sprite. =)

Didn't they do this for the Zelda games for a collection on the GameCube and give it away for free? $30 Nintendo? Really?

Why didn't they do this with the all-stars + world game? it seems like a no-brainer to me. I'm sure disc space was far from being an issue.

The physics on the allstars games are way off. Looks like a straight Wii port, so I won't be buying.

So what if its a port? Limited edition is limited. Don't like it? Don't fucking buy it. Easy as that.

5uper Mario World never needed a retouch and Mario 64 is kinda in need of a total makeover these days. The problem with remaking Mario 64 right now is even a remake would look horrible compared to Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2.

Mario 64 did not age well, It is not as good as you remember it being, either. The four SNES remakes? They have very much aged well. So has Mario World. Hell, let's throw Sunshine in for good measure because even that looks and plays better than Mario 64 now.

If you want a super mario 64 remake play the DS version

I already bought all the nes versions on VC along time ago

If this had included super mario world I would have gotten it,but since I already have them I guess I'm going to pass. Although the new visuals are nice I prefer the old soundtracks instead.

If I got it it would just be for the nice packaging

I agree with you Nick Super Mario World is the best Mario game to date. I'm liking the new super Mario Brothers, but i have to take points of for not letting me take Yoshi along with me after the lvl ends. I'm pathetic I know, but Yoshi is my favorite Mario character. Then Luigi. Now that I think about it I don't think I have Mario ranked lol.

Yeah, I just realized that there is a good chance that this will be rather limited. Just like the Metroid Prime Collection. I have a feeling that in about 5-10 years, this is gonna be a hot item, just like GCN's Zelda Collector's Disc.

Right now, I'm incredibly torn between my inner child and my much older cynical bastard that I am today

Older Me: WTF Nintendo? You couldn't include World, Yoshi's Island, or any of the Mario other spinoffs! Hell you couldn't even give us Sunshine! Instead, you charged us $30 for something I've bought at least twenty times already, for what? A CD and art book? FUCK THAT!!!!

Inner Child: OMG IT'S MARIO!!! AND IT HAS A PRETTY ART BOOK AND CD! I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT!!!!

Guess this is what happens when I'm off my meds.

I would have let it slide as a NES thing but the fact that they're using SNES graphics make it no excuse not to add SMW or every major Mario SNES game. =/

Still paying 32 dollars though. >_>

VC SNES game: $8 (but you get a physical game)
Booklet and CD: $21.99

Not that awful in my opinion. Still, I don't think I'm buying it, I'm too poor right now and I still have to buy Kirby and Donkey Kong.

Reason why World isn't included:

It's on the VC. The All-Star editions of the others are not. They want you to spend $8 on World, not get it discounted as part of some collection. This is Nintendo, not Sega.

Lol paying for roms.

But seriously I'm glad I still have my All-Stars cart. $30 seems pretty steep

I'm glad Nintendo sees fit to grant me the favor of being allowed to purchase their old games once again.

I look forward to the next opportunity to purchase more of their old games I already own in a slightly different format.

I was shocked to hear it hadn't come out in America yet. I've owned it since last Friday! And Nintendo of Europe haven't even mentioned it's release once! And why isn't Super Mario World on here!!! BEING SPOILED MAKES ME SO ANGRY.

Mario 3 easily wins best Mario game. I'm talking all of them too, not just the 2D ones.

And Super Mario World easy? I don't know about that. That game still kicks my ass.

I'll definitely pick this up. Wish I had a red Wii to go with it.
