It's cool they might finally get an expansion, though, given its been almost five years since the last proper expansion. It's been these life support add-ons ever since.
FFXI's "trilogy" story is AMAZING, though, and if there's one thing I'd love SE to do its to take that rich story and rebuild it around a single player game.
And fix RNG, but I know they'd never do that.
Because they are doing both simultaneously. Not sure why it wouldn't occur to you that there might be a different team in the same company working on FFXI.
As for FFXIV I'll be willing to try it again once 2.0 comes out, they better give a free month to the people who bought the game when it came out so they can check it out again.
Ha!
SE has made some mind-bogglingly stupid decisions with the game in the past (I blame Tanaka after seeing the trainwreck that was FFXIV's initial release), but even with that I have to say that I can't think of another MMO that I got into as much as FFXI. The story really was excellent, even SWotR with it's highly-touted focus on story didn't really hook me like that game did.
@Xelotath
I think everybody is getting a free month trial for 2.0 regardless, and if you actually paid for 3 months subscription time within a certain timeframe you have access to a (lifetime?) discount on the subscription. I was at 2 months before I stopped and am getting some crysta to pay for one more month just for that.
New MMO experience in XIV since there are about a million EQ/WoW clones, and in that quest to create uniqueness, XI had no depth at the start. But that's just an opinion.
Anywho, for those wondering why they're still pushing out content for XI despite XIV existing, both games are developed by separate development teams and both have paying subscribers. XI gets its updates, as does XIV. They're completely independent of each other.
I'm at about 60 with my White Mage, and after I get it to 91 at least (and finish the last cap quest), I'm gonna go into overdrive getting every job to at least 75 so I can get all those Achievements on the 360 version.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone that found the original game too hard or time-consuming, but probably tell any vets to go ahead and stay away unless you're looking for a more casual experience than you remember.
I mean, cool if its true that this is a FFXI expansion. To be real honest FFXIV shouldn't have ever been a thing and they should have kept going with changing and making XI better.. But Square uses the same names and shit all the time, Adoulin, despite being from FFXI, could really be for anything, including FFXIV..
Which, maybe not so ironically, when you think about it wouldn't the name mean a whole lot if it WAS for FFXIV? I mean, most people who played that game wanted to go back to XI any way, even if they never played XI at all....
". Considering data-miners have found a ton of unfinished content in the game recently, this could easily be a possibility."
Well, it could be, but again, seriously, every MMO, hell, every game, has unused/unfinished stuff littering its data files.. Its easier for them to just leave that crap in then waste time and funds taking it out.
overall, it'd be great, but this is the sort of hope that leads to disappointment. I'd rather just wait and see.
"Dark Knights for life!"
As a former Paladin, we're going to have to agree to disagree :)
