A few million people have signed into Facebook over LIVE photo

News flash: a lot of people signed into Facebook through Xbox LIVE after Microsoft rolled out the planned summer update that also added Last.FM and Twitter.

Microsoft dude David Dennis recently told CNET that around 2 million people have signed into the social platform via the Xbox 360. He added that half a million people have signed up for Last.FM accounts within its first full day of availability.

Dennis didn’t have numbers for the amount of people who got bored with both apps and went to play Modern Warfare 2. He also didn't have a number for the amount of people using the Twitter app, but we’re guessing a lot of people signed into that as well. Not many can resist sending that, "Hey, I'm doing this over LIVE" tweet. Not many at all.

I was one of them.

I loaded it up for 10 seconds, decided it was shit and useless, then went back to Forza 3. Similarly with Last.fm, but if that could be an ingame soundtrack, then I'd be singing an entirely different tune.
See what I did there?

Hey I found it useful. Since I just got my 360, I didn't know what my friends' Gamertags were. With the Facebook app I was able to find most of them. But I guess the average user will not find use with it. It is nice and sleek though.

Microshaft had to add shit like bookface because (these days) ecksbawks haz noe gaemz!

I'm quite liking the trophy updates my PSN sends to my bookface, specially as I've not have any "you turned the game on" trophies that 360 users cherish so much. - As always accessing bookface on the PS3 browser is simple as, but I rarely waste my own time on bookface. That's a work thing.

Back to the too many games I've got to play right now.

I signed in once on XBL. Never again. Typing without a keyboard (even with a chatpad) is not fun.

Yeah, these numbers really don't mean squat. Tell me how many people use the functions on a daily or weekly basis two weeks from now, that will mean something. I think most people try out new features of the various releases, so it's no surprise there would be a large number of people recorded as having used them.

I agree that the number of people who did it more than once would be more interesting, given as a Facebook client it's a steaming turd.

Yeah, I signed in once as well... facebook and twitter really have no place on the 360.

I signed in so I could see how shit it was. It was shit.

And I made a last.fm account when they announced the compatibility. And I don't use it on my 360 now I can.

The Facebook app is useless. I still havent quite figured out why we needed it in the first place. However the Last.FM app is awesome, I use it all the time. Now if only we could stream Last.FM while in a game, I would be all set.

The Facebook app is only really useful when my wife is hogging the computer, which is a lot. I can't do anything useful other than look at people's posts. Half of my friends' posts are just quiz results or Farmville/CafeWorld stuff, neither of which I care about.

I am disappointed with the last.fm channel, due to the fact that I can't use it while playing games. There's so much the XBox can do in regards to voice chat/parties/multiplayer that there's no reason you shouldn't be able to stream music while playing something. The only time I'll use it is if I'm in another room doing something, and even then, I've got an iPod which I can either use headphones with or plug into the 360 and play from there.

the question is, how many people will login a second time? ( or a third, fourth etc? ) and how many people will be using it in 2 months???

I logged into it once, saw it, was hugely dissapointed and will prolly never open it again :p

All I want to do is play games. If I want to sign on to facebook, I will do so on my computer. I do not appreciate nor want your attempt to integrate all electronic media into one thing that you own.

Facebook is alright, wish it incorporated flash applications and stuff. I don't use twitter so thats pointless to me. but I'm most disappointed in Last FM it was nothing like I expected, I want to make a damn playlist not look for similar songs or artists related to the artist i'm looking for, I want to see the artist I'm looking for's complete song list and add songs I want to a playlist.

@ Brandon-

I agree about Last.FM. I would have at least settled for picking an artist and hearing random songs from just that artist, rather than having to skip fifteen songs to get another song by the artist you wanted in the first place. It's okay, and I would probably use it if it could run in the background while I play games or do other things, but without that functionality, it's not going to get much use from me.

i used it during the preview program, then once the update went live, i couldnt use it, it just flashes my screen and then goes right back to the dashboard. i emailed ms and they told me to call them, i informed them that i could just go on my ps3

@ James lukensow - that's what my girlfriends used to say. Ba-dum-tish.

Facebook: good for seeing which friends on fb are also on Live, and vice versa, but otherwise it'd too separated from the dashboard to be worthwhile. Posted one msg "is trying facebook from his 360", then never returned to it. It's lacking features, it's cumbersome and things are too many screens away, and I can't play Mafia Wars from it!

last.fm: great thing to have on in the background, BUT as others have said, you end up skipping tons of tracks to get to another one from the artist you searched for; it's another separate app like facebook, so you can't use it as a soundtrack; and finally, the music varies in quality with a lot of bass missing and some large variations in volume.

Facebook and Twitter with no direct connection to the Xbox experience, because they encourage players to interact outside of the social communicative elements of Xbox Live already offers. Boy Pajamas
