Well, they're not completely free. You have to buy a PS3 first, but hey - they're $100 off right now.
You had better jump on them while they're hot, though. It seems there is a liquidation going on.
GameStop has an advertisement for five free Blu-Ray movies when a PS3 is purchased between July 1 and September 30, 2007 at their stores. Sure, it's a mail-in rebate (
printable coupon), but that's five movies, which comes out to about a $150 value.
No, you don't
have to get five copies of
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, although we're not sure why you wouldn't want to. In all seriousness, there are some good titles coming. July 31st brings
300, and you know you'll wanna see that in all of its high-definition glory. Next week brings the "fixed" version of The Fifth Element (they f*cked up the first Blu-Ray version). These and others should hold you over until some
good games come out.
[thanks, BlindsideDork]

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, Amen?
The 5 movies are from a short list of titles, and doesn't include the fixed version of Fifth Element or Talladega Nights. Lawds no. But you can get some crappy second tier films instead.
Here's the rebate order form, Dale. The Gamestop one is just a PDF version of the ad.
1 from each category. That means I have to choose between Stealth, Stir of Echoes, RE2, and Underworld Evolution. That's just cruel.
I would prefer Bable AND Devil's Rejects, but no, I have to choose.
Sony's just full of fuck-tardation.
they always have an out to get around that. Back when DVD's first debuted, WB did the exact same thing. Buy 4 WB DVD's get one free. The WB DVD's would come with no UPC on the packaging, and would already be opened. They were new movies, just un-returnable. All I did was just trade them off with people, so it's not all that bad, it just sucks that it's such a shitty selection. WB had nearly their entire available catalog to choose from.
Although you could probably sell them back to Gamestop.
I don't think he specifically said that Talladega was the only title available. Just that it's the commonly associated pack-in. There's over 500 titles avaiable, and anyone can google to see this.
Good job jumping to conclusions. Even I knew the PS3'd been updated for upscaling 480p content.
Sucks balls that it's only for a select few crappy movies, but free is free.
Anyway... @ Jerrt. Fifth Element is like one of my favorites of all time. I've been thinking of getting it as my first Blu-ray purchase. What's this "remastered" thing you speak of?
The original Blu-ray release was supposedly a craptastic transfer for high def (they were using mpeg2 as the codec in the beginning as oppossed to mpeg4, and VC-1 now.) This one should be a significant improvement and I believe they're going to allow trade-ups from the original buy to this version.
"Sony's just full of fuck-tardation."
Ummm... This isn't Sony's deal. This is a deal from Buena Vista Home Entertainment. It is also offered to Blu-ray players of other brands, not just Sony's. Just so you know for the future as well... Just because Sony is one of the biggest names behind Blu-ray doesn't mean they are the only one...
300 on HD-DVD is going to be a much better purchase anyway; the sheer number of extra features on the HD-DVD makes the Blu-Ray seem almost comical.
Yep you are
I think of Jesus as the lead singer of like a Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band. And he's rocking out, and I'm like HAMMERED in the front row..
