The survey leak rumors continue to come to fruition, as Activision have officially revealed that Jimi Hendrix (and his music) will appear in the upcoming Guitar Hero World Tour.

The title will not only feature the legendary guitar-burning musician as a playable character, but will also feature two master tracks: a live version of "Purple Haze" from a 1969 San Diego Sports Agena concert, and "The Wind Cries Mary." Other exclusive Hendrix tracks will be available for download after the game's launch.

"Guitar Hero games have become the virtual rock stage for the industry's most beloved artists," says Tim Riley, Vice President of Music Affairs for Activision Blizzard, "and Guitar Hero World Tour continues that tradition by honoring the great Jimi Hendrix and celebrating some of his greatest work."

Riley goes on to say that his "prescense in the game will serve to satisfy multiple generations of his fans." But if you're looking for something a little more current, Paramore's Haley Williams and former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker have also been confirmed to appear in the game. And since all signs point to rumors being true, expect a full roster of stars to be announced between now and the game's fall release, including Ozzy Osbourne, Sting, and more.

I can only wonder how awful Hendrix will look in-game thanks to the GH art style.
Like Hendrix, but not enough to buy this. Now if they had exclusive Eric Clapton, THEN I might be obligated.

Knowing Hendrix was gonna be in this was cool enough, but, now, "The Wind Cries Mary"?

This will be purchased on day one.

This game is getting more awesome by the day. Hope they learn from Harmonix mistakes and release this game quickly in Europe after the US...

The Wind Cries Mary - Thats going to be great with a group of friends and some pot. I think its safe to say the high score wont be beaten though.

Considering the Hendrix family politics, I'm not suprised that they're whoring out his image and music for as much as they can. It's so sad.

Activision has taken one from MicroSoft's books, throwing money around will get you what you want. Unfortunately, the only thing that will get me to even consider this is peripheral compatibility on the PS3.

@ RockVillian

A vast quantity of Lol's were dispensed upon seeing that post.

Good job.

It is safe to assume that Hendrix will too morph into a beast of some kind, yes? My money is on a Cougar!

Surprising, considering that the whole reason Spanish Castle Magic in the first didn't have lyrics was because first the cover singer sounded TOO much like him, then when they redid it, he didn't sound ENOUGH like him.

Picky nonsense. I thought they were all tightassed about his music/image.

Must've been a boatload of money..
