A deck builder: World of Warcraft: Clash of Champions photo

Card games are tops with me, but I can't do the card collecting like I did back in the Magic: The Gathering days anymore. I won't let myself.

Cryptozoic understands this, and maybe that's why they've made new card game World of Warcraft: Clash of Champions a deck-building game. Up to four players can build decks from 425 cards featuring popular figures from MMO World of Warcraft. You'll fight monsters, get loot, and take on raid bosses. That sounds pretty great, and so does not having to buy booster packs.

World of Warcraft: Clash of Champions will be available in spring 2012 with a suggested retail price of $45.00.

Don't get excited for this game, their Walking Dead board game is terrible.

So this is separated from the main WoW TCG? Is it the same type of thing as the Icecrown-based raid package they released a while back?

I've wanted to play the CCG, I heard it's pretty boss. Don't play the MMO and haven't touched a card game in years (fucking boosters and money), might want to play this with the lil bro in law over xmas.

For those who don't know, a "deck building game" is not a CCG. It's a game where each player starts off with a small deck of cards (usually the same decks) and then through the game, you select what cards you want to add to your deck from a common selection on the table that's available to everyone. It's NOT a collectible game, but a stand alone game (that will likely have expansions).

Deck building games were made popular by the super successful game Dominion. This game looks like it will be more like the deck building game Thunderstone.

They should integrate the card game with World of Warcraft, make it playable though it. Best cards could be lootable off bosses, basic decks and boosters could be created by inscriptors and/or sold by Darkmoon Faire vendors and so on...
